cleaning hardwood floors?

Just got new hardwood floors with water-based finish.

What should I use for regular cleaning?

Just a microfiber cloth?

Is the roomba or scooba recommended?

Vaccuum cleaner?

I use something similar to stogie's suggestion [microfiber mop thing] and Bruce floor cleaning solution.

My cleaning ladies say they sometimes use some diluted vinegar to clean my floors.

Yup, my father does side jobs with a guy that refinishes hardwood flooring and he says that is what to use. 50/50 mix.

HOWEVER.... how was the floor put down?
1) unfinished flooring laid then a poly finish applied
2) prefinished hardwood
3) laminate (i.e. Pergo)

If it it #1, go to town with the vinegar/water mix
If 2 or 3, use a slightly damp mop (wring it out several times). Problem is the water can collect in the grooves of a tongue and groove floor and warp and rot the wood.

I definitely would not recommended this for use on laminate flooring.

Twice a year we used a slightly damp mop with Murphy's Oil and do the entire floor. The rest of the year we maintain it with a microfiber and Bruce cleaner...

Of course it is vacuumed regularly as well.

I don't see where that was asked. OP said hardwood, not laminate. Plus there's no way it would get hot enough to do anything to laminate.

Unfortunately most people don't differentiate between hardwood floors and laminate. They are typically all referred to as "hardwood floors"

I asked my Dad's friend about it and he's personally seen delamination in laminate flooring from the use of both those steam cleaners as well as using a wet mop.

As many have said, sweep/vacuum floors regularly. Here's what we use, it's safe for pre-finished and site finished wood floors.

Thanks for all the replies.

I've got a microfiber mop. I don't have any solution to go with it yet, but I'll pick one up.

In regards to the type of floor: Its was an unfinished hardwood, with a water-based finish applied after it was installed.

So no one recommends a roomba? Are they not good for the floors, or just don't really help?
