So still after a year I have not begun to properly organize my garage fully. I have put lots of stuff up on my upper shelves in the workshop area but that is it. Only half of it has even been sorted through. The lower shelves with all my car supplies were still in various boxes and only had been unboxed with what I have needed from time to time. Finally spent sometime today organizing three of the shelves. Helped to say I unboxed 8 boxes of stuff and got it all organized.

I eventually want to get clear plastic container for the stuff on the shelves but for now the various Amazon boxes I have saved over the years that are perfect for the shelf depth will have to work.

Also finally got my stereo in the garage setup. I have mounts that I could hang the speakers but I am still deciding where or if I want to mount them at all.



The upper shelves are still a disaster for the most part. Half of the stuff is just stuff I don't know if I want it in the garage or up in the attic at this point.

Still using a rubbermade table as my work bench as I have not figured out what I want to do permanetly. Trying to decide between just building a regular framed out work bench or maybe going with two lower cabinets with an openeing in the middle for a chair and a solid work top surface. I would have a lot more ideas space to work with without the terrible water heater being right there. Also thinking of mounting the garage TV right above the door to outside since that would put it halfway between the work area and the cars so I could see it from either location.

So a little update on my grass growing project in my backyard.

Three and a half months later - First mowing of the area.




Going to continue to keep it seperated and the dogs off it as much as possible till this coming October. That will have given the new grass 1 full year of growing in. Hopefully this will allow it to have a very full and mature root system to not be ripped out by the dogs again from all the running. I am also going to do lime, fertalizer, and over seed it again this spring. Maybe doing this as early as the end of February if these warm temps continue steady. Going to dig up the areas that still haven't grown when I do this. Very happy with the way it has come in though and wish I had finished what I had started but it go me thinking it wasn't going to work when the areas I heavily seeded on Nov 1 didn't really start growing till middle to end of December.

The perfectionist in me is looking for a turf like backyard from all this work. I am determined to get it eventually.

Yeah at this point I am hoping that it doesn't get cold again cause it will kill things like flowers and all that have started with these warm temps. Plus it will give me a nice extended spring grow time to do some more grass repair.

I don't have much room in my garage for a work bench but came across this idea. Mounted to the wall and folds down when not in use, so you don't take up the needed space. Might be worth it for you in you have limited space like myself.

The more storage I create, the more crap my wife saves. My garage is a tote farm. The last vestige of my manspace is the shed, but it's not the best place to hang out.

If I build an additional garage the main garage can go to storage and I will fuly build out with nice cabinets, tv, and lifts for storage of my toys. It would be 3 bay for sure and maybe 4 but not sure that would be allowed in my neighborhood. I know I can do at least 3 as another house already has one.

I don't have room for a detached garage, but I have been thinking about finishing my shed so I have a comfortable place to hide from the women. Problem is if I make it too comfortable and they find out, it'll be over. Right now they're afraid to go in the shed.

I have a 40A sub panel in there, so I could actually make it pretty homey in there if I wanted to.

Finally it has been SOLD! As of this past Friday it closed and I no longer have to take care of two properties. This process went beyond what I ever had invisioned or multiple realtors had ever told me would happen. For some reason the location was just not as good as it was 2 years ago I guess. The house was on the market till closing for 353 days. I never invisioned it being on the market more than 6 months worst case. In the end it was still worth it even taking a loss because I originally only ever planned on being in that house for 4-6 years at most. The new house I plan to be in till I retire unless I move for work or win the lottery.

So did a little repair work this weekend. The single flood light I have in my backyard was basically past its life. I had temporarily fixed it in the fall with duct tape but even that had failed. At this point it was just time for a new fixture. I had looked for a while at getting an all in one LED fixture. However, while researching them they didn't seem to have to light throw I was looking for. With the amount of land I have I wanted to be able to see into the woods when I let our dogs out. I accomplished this with a new regular metal fixture and 2 PAR38 CREE 3000k temp LED bulbs that put out 1500 lumens each. The two bulbs cost more than the light fixture.

Old light output for reference. This was from a CFL flood light bulb. I hated them because you had to wait for them to warm up for full output which took forever.

I love the light output and the color isn't crazy white light but it isn't a warm light either. I would put it in the daylight color catagory of bulbs. I am fine with this for my backyard as I want to be able to see as much as possible. I won't be replacing my front bulbs with these as I want to keep something that blends with the landscape lighting instead. I would however at some point like to add another flood light to my backyard with two more of these bulbs to really light everything up when needed. With another pair it would be like lighting at a sports field which would be great.

Yeah it is a lot of stress off my back finally to have that place sold.

The light wasn't really that much of a fire hazard. That was just duct tape and not electrical tape. All the wires were still inside the light just the fixture was really cheap and made of plastic. The teeth that allowed you to angle it has basically all broken off so it did nothing but hang straight down no matter how tight you made the screw. The fixture still held the weight not the wires.

By the way it is really hard to find nice looking exterior flood lights. The set I really wanted to buy that looked nice had reviews stating the housing was too long so it blocked the wide spread of light. Well product fail considering that would be the point of a flood light I would think.
