Can you move a cast iron tub with a handtruck?
I keep going back and forth with the delivery service. They could only do curbside.....
Do you think I will be able to move this on a sturdy hand truck, up the driveway, over a 45 degree 4" curb to the garage? No steps.
Figure it is 350 lbs crated, and will be the size of a refrigerator. I googled some handtruck and mine seems to be similar to the 400 lb weight capacity ones. Has anyone moved a refrigerator themselves with a hand truck?
(They cant put in storage, and the work isnt commencing for another few weeks. So my only other option would be to cancel the order, and talk my way out of a fee, then re-order in a few weeks when my contractor is there).
Not sure if I am overthinking this.

It's not 45 degrees.

Oh, you think I dont know that a right angle is 90 degrees?
I installed begium blocks at a 45 degree angle below a gate that leads the driveway to the backyard / carriage house, for cars, etc.

I read it again. The curb is 45, not the driveway. My mistake.

You need at least one assistant for something that heavy just to get it over humps. You really need a spotter for something as large as a fridge anyway. I would have three people for something that size and weight if they aren't used to man-handling refrigerators or pianos.

Get one of those handtrucks for appliances and what not. They should definitely hold the weight. You can rent them from Uhaul I believe.

Is the driveway relatively flat?

Here's what i THINK i have.
The tub is 340 lbs, and 450 crated, per the website. The driveway is uphill slightly, but no parts are downhill, which is good. They only do M-F delivery. I would need to take off a day from work and go at this solo. I may be able to have a 70 yr old retired father over to spot, but he would be more of a hindrance than a help.
The goal is to get it up the driveway, over angled curb, across a backyard, and into a shed. The contractors arent starting for a few weeks, and will take care of it from there.

Maybe slip the delivery guys a tip to help get it up into the garage? Can't imagine trying to solo something like that up the driveway.

hmmm, maybe i will just deny the delivery options to get out of a $175 return fee, then re-order the tub in a month when the contractor is done with the demo and at the property on a daily basis.
it is kind of my fault for not looking further into the delivery process. i still find it hard to believe that the only option is curbside delivery for such a large website vendor. Do they expect the average guy to convince three friends to take off work during the week to haul a 400-500 tub off the street?

they were going to start charging me daily fees for keeping at the dock, so i got them to waive the return policy. i'll re-order when the contractor is on site in a few weeks.
thanks for the help. hope this isnt a sign of things to come for this reno.

Alternatively, you could've looked into renting a pallet jack, assuming the tub is crated on a pallet. I've moved some pretty heavy stuff solo that way, much easier to control than a dolly.

Get a set of these (can get them just about anywhere) i got mine at Harbor Freight for like 20 bucks each. 2 of them will handle the weight, i have a old 1 piece Valley Pool table with built in track that i moved on a set, i moved my Aquarium with them, and every year i use them under my pontoon boat to roll it around in the storage shed with ease.
