Anyone have an electric fireplace?

I have decided to renovate my 3 season room and put a spa in there and I was considering doing an electric or a gas fireplace fo suplimental heat so its not 15 degrees in the room while getting into the spa. I am leaning towards electric since I would have to hire a plumber to run the gas line. I can run the electric myself. I was considering either or these.

electric.

gas.

My sister has a huge electric one. It's floor standing and has a mantel. It makes a decent amount of heat but I don't care for it. I feel if you are going to have a fireplace then it should at least have a chimney. But what do I know?

I was just looking to do something that looks better than baseboard heat.

You could probably manage to run gas yourself too. Using TracPipe (flexible gas line) it's very similar to running Romex.

Obviously you'll likely meet up with black pipe at some point, if you don't have a spare nipple to couple to you may need a plumbers help there... but no big deal.

It's expensive shit, but if you keep an eye on eBay you can usually find some great deals. I have a 100-ft spool I bought for $75... the stuff wholesales for $2.50/ft locally. Retail is above $3. The "AutoFlare" fittings wholesale for $14, you can find them on eBay for under $1.

I just put infrared heat in my garage a few weeks ago and it only took about 4-5 hours to run gas & electric by myself.
