Air leak in Skimmer line?

Hi everyone,

Need help, where and how should I start to look for an air leak on the skimmer line of my pool? I just bought the house and the pump primes perfectly when I run on the main drain, however when I open the skimmer line I get sporadic air and no prime. I've confirmed that there is nothing clogging the line and it's definetly an air leak.

I've heard this can be very expensive and time consuming to find the leak. Any help would be welcomed!

Thanks in advance.

I dunnow, you might be wrong. I am very versed in pump technology.

When given the chance, any pump would rather suck air than even the lightest of fluids.

Since yours is a suction device, air should be readily apparent in the water.

If in doubt, purge of air, completely under water, the hose pump and all and observe.

How old is the pump?

Might just be a leaky seal...they say to rebuild them every 2 years or so...only costs about $60 to get the seals re-done.
