would I be 'that guy' - PSP at the gym
if I brought my psp to the gym to watch movies while I did cardio?
I've been doing 90 minutes or more at a time and it gets really damn boring.

Ive been thinking about doing the same. It is cumbersome? Does it fall off the treadmill?

no....its really light and it could easily rest on that lip for books/magazines. I wouldn't use it on the treadmill though since that seems to jostle around a little...but on the elliptical/bike I think it would be great.

Seems fine to me. I don't feel like buying the UMD movies, so I would need to get a bigger memory card.

nah my gym is huge, there are always plenty of machines.
and wsklar...I don't really want to buy them either... they are a rip off right now, they really need to get them down around $10 each, not 25.

Should be fine, I used to watch stuff on my archos at the gym. The only irritating thing was that other people would try to watch it too. The screen is only so small damn it.

verdict - PSP at the gym is the greatest thing I've ever done. I bought Hero (for 27 f#@king dollars) and the time flew by. I'm ordering every decent movie on PSP tomorrow.
I overestimated the size of the thing. I pictured the PSP taking up the whole shelf on the machines and being obvious for anyone else around...
Is there a way to rip DVD's onto the memory sticks?

...last summer I was in one of my best shape, and what helped me was... watching an episode of Alias everyday on my portible DVD player while I did cardio... each episode is about 45 minutes without commercials, which is perfect. I've been around the gym scene since 87' and IMO, there's nothing wrong with it... (after I was caught up with Alias season 3, I continued with "24").
...but if you watched it without headphones, then... that's a different story.

^ he said rip 30 minute episodes, not a complete dvd.
and I've never used any, but there should be programs that can compress dvd's or other video to fit. I've read about people fitting 3 full dvd's on a 1gb SD card to play on treo 650, so I'm sure it can be done for a memory stick too right?

...just seem kinda a hassel... I'd rather just go buy one of those cheap 7" widescreen portable DVD players... and just rent what ever movie you want to watch... They're getting cheaper... like.. $149...
