Wireless HR monitor? Weird.

So I picked up a polar HR monitor with a chest strap. So i get onto the elliptical and everything is going fine, not holding onto the HR monitor on the elliptical because I now have my own.

Here's the weird part, the elliptical showed my HR the entire time I was on it. I didn't set anything up and usually if you dont hold the hand grips it usually doesn't show your HR. Do Precor machines just pick up your HR from the monitor on your chest automatically?

Some of the machines work with the polar HR straps automatically. I know the ones at my gym do.

There is probably a Polar logo somewhere on the machine.

yeah, I know for a fact that all Precor and Life Fitness machines have receivers built in to pick up Polar's signal... I've seen them pick up HRM's of other brands too... the part I hate is... sometimes, I'll be doing cardio WITH my Polar HRM on... and maybe the battery's low... but someone else will get next to me, also with a wireless HRM on... but MY machine ends up picking up the other person's HR
