I'm on a diet of a minimum of 5 meals per day. My body tends to burn energy very fast, and if I want to make it to my goal of 175lbs, I need to EAT! I'm 5'9" and 153 right now, so its a LONG haul.

I'm 6'-1" and 195lbs.

I diet to cut body fat. I used to alot but don't seem to lose much weight anymore.

I try to cut fat mainly before my competitions. No need for the extra weight.

Are you talking about the area between his delts (outer shoulder) and his neck? Those are traps, not lats.

Nah, not overtraining. I lifted more days when I was training for tennis in high school. As other people have mentioned, what works for some people doesn't work for others. I know the limitations of my body and this is well below those tolerances. You should hear the trainings I did while I was training for tennis. Those were overtraining. I lost a ton of weight fast during those years but the strain on my body was really pretty insane...

Your actually losing fat, and builing muscle, fat cannot turn into muscle, but in the end, i guess it dosent really matter, now does it?

No offense taken, I've only lost 3.5lbs in the past week. The week before that was probably all water weight. I don't have time to go to the gym everyday, so I try to do as much as I can while I'm there. I've only been doing cardio, but I'm thinking about throwing an Erg into the mix (rowing machine). In a couple of weeks I will start with the weights, I'm just trying to condition myself to not die. I'd like to get to lean mass before I start building, which is the only reason I'm not doing weights now.

Trying to actually pay attention to what I eat. Funny to write it down then add it up.

I still think for my size (6'3 250) my metabolism is that of a sloth. I only eat about 2k-2500 calories a day and work out 4-5 days a week and I still don't lose weight unless i starve myself.

Whatever, am trying to get into running so we will see where that takes me.

proves that all you need is a sensible diet and excercise and you can lose weight no problem. This guy lost the bulk of his weight in 6 months time and is now very fit.

Another great site with tons of tips and a nice little 12-week fat loss program is www.leanbodyclub.com

It is Lee Labrada's web site, which is nicely done IMO. They have all the past email newsletter tips archived, so you can find info on just about anything fitness related.

A key to losing FAT, rather than just weight, is to combine diet, cardio and lifting all into one complete routine. It's not easy, that's for sure. But the results from doing a consistent 12-week program can be more than worth the effort put into it.

I posted in another thread about this 12-week program I am on - I am at 250 lbs and would like to be at 232 or so. That would put me around 8% bf, which would be a good number. I have been told by a friend that this program is almost fail-safe as long as you stick to it.

The key is eating frequent meals, slowly dropping calories over the course of the program, slowly increasing cardio (both frequency AND duration) and lifting with intensity 3-4 times per week. Now this sounds insane and for some people it might be overkill. So you can adjust it to your needs. But in order to lose FAT, you have to burn more calories than you consume - plain and simple. The way to do this is to eat foods that require more energy to break down, eat small meals more frequently throughout the day and exercise in a way that burns fat for energy, i.e. high intensity exercise. So the stroll down the street or doing a few bicep curls won't cut it most of the time.

Wanted to comment on this - you make an indirect point by showing if someone is patient and consistent, then they will achieve their goals. We live in a NOW society where we want instant gratification and true results are not gained overnight. It takes time - all those beautiful people you see on TV and billboards did not get that way overnight. They most likely worked very hard or have awesome genetics, or both, to look like they do. Not saying everyone has to be ripped to be healthy, because I am not, but people see that and get depressed when they don't look that way after a few weeks of training and diet.

people are impatient. Celebrities have personal trainers and dieticians, and the whole day to work out. People don't see this. I'm just sayin for the Acurazine people, with time, the right food and exercise, you can reach your weight goal.

if you can handle low carb, go for it, I lost 20 of my 50lbs on low carb. It was hard at first, but I got use to getting burgers without buns, I ate chicken caesar salads which I like, ate low carb chocolate, chewed on sugar free gum, drank lots of water and if I need somethign sweet, had some diet coke. One you see a difference its easier to stick with it.

hah we are in the same boat!! I weigh the exact same as you, only problem is I am a shade under 6 foot!!

I am about 3 months into wieght training, and 1 month into a more aggressive and outlined regimen. 5 meals a day whenever I can, loads of calories as healthy as I can make them. I've seen some strength gains, and I get more swollen and puffy when Im done at the gym than I did in the beginning, but I havent seen any new lb's really. I have to be patient because I know it will take time/work more time and more work!

I'm not doing low carb....the world is obsessed with it and I don't think it's right for me. I just work on watching fat content, calories, sodium, etc. Along with exersicing more than I eat. Having a Subway on campus is great

After a while, you stop desiring foods you used to think you could never give up in the past. I think it's because I realize I'd have to work about an hour just to work off the one burger, and I'm inherently lazy.

Don't let your aversion to the low carb fad keep you from watching your carbohydrate intake. French fries, white bread, candy, pop, pasta, chips, etc. are all great foods for getting fat. Stick to high quality carbs - green veggies, wild rice, whole wheat bread, etc.

Now is the perfect time to cut ( lose body fat ). It's summer soon, and you'll definitely want to be lean before you start focusing on putting on muscle.
