Over the past year though I've gained close to 20lbs of muscle and maintained a 8-12% bodyfat.

Whiskers I'd consider it, you'd get to have a MD at 23, and look at yourself naked in the mirror all day.
Now... I am 5'11 and weigh about 194... I had dipped to 192ish but started going back up again, but my pants are still getting looser (33 now I think). I stopped snacking, started (light) protein, and have been lifting 1.5 hours every other day, and trying to get as many runs as possible in on the off days, as well as calisthenics. My cardio still needs MUCH improvement. I am only doing 1.5 to 2 miles now, at a decent pace, but I want to get up to 4-6, at least.

I guess you were joking ? 5'8 at 105 would be awfully skinny. I am 6'2 at 190 and I think I'm pretty skinny.

I'm Six feet tall and weigh 205lbs. I remember being 170 lbs and six feet tall and I looked very unhealthy.
I don't agree with BMI at all.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) isn't horrible, but its steps ahead of BMI or calipers.

as of current, I haven't been to the gym in about 1-2 months, and I'm about 5'9 @ 160lbs with a gnarly belly. When I was working out, I was the same weight, but obviously looked great. It's weird how when I stop working out, my weight doesn't fluctuate much but my fat just starts to accumulate

Hey Whiskers, how tall are you?
I lost a bunch of weight too (245 @ 5'5 to 170 @ 5'7), but I think I have excess skin now =/. I wear a size 30/31 waist pant and a size small shirt(usually fitted), you can't really tell if I have a shirt on. I should be 10-15lbs lighter then I am, but I'm pretty skinny all the way around (you can actually kinda see the bottom of my ribs a little), athletic build. It doesn't look bad, its more annoying then anything really. I hope its just fat and I need to go take my ass running more, but whats your experience with this? I don't have the money to get it taken off
older pic:
Mid french inhale lol, I look pretty much the same just a little thinner and with less hair

You grew 2 inches?
I'm 5'8...Im about 170, 31 inch waist....The stomach still has the excess skin, and it does bother me because it maked me feel fatter then I am....But, there is really nothing to do about it (except for surgery).

I went from about 140 to 180 pounds after i slowly stopped going to the gym (well most exercise in the matter) i went down to 165. Now i fluctuate from 165-173, weird as this sounds i used to only drink vodka i was always skinny and felt more energetic. Lately i been drinking allot of beer i feel more tired, lazy and starting to get a tiny belly (if completely relax you can see it ). I realized after one day while receiving a happy ending after a massage. Back to the gym i go.. OH yea i'm 6ft

this post just made me
i've been trying to lose weight too and started cardio up again recently.
just discovered the elliptical, which is new to the apartment gym. wow. that's a great machine.
i've had knee problems ever since injuring it in college while playing basketball. i've been running outdoors but the knee's started acting up again.
then the apt bought new machines for the gym. and the elliptical has been great on the knees.

Unless you are training for a marathon, I don't see a reason to do any high impact cardio. Stick with the ellipical, bikes, waves and steppers....

These machines do their jobs correctly.
Especially if you have a problem with your knees.
Otherwise, just plain old running outside will do the trick.
BTW. I'm now currently 142 lbs.
I lost all my winter fat.

Just for the sake of accurate information, spot reducing body fat is impossible. Earlier the thread someone asked which exercises to do to burn fat off the gut. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Overall calories have to be reduced in order to reduce body fat in a specific area. Crunches will build muscle in the ab region, but won't burn fat there.
IMO, weight training is as important or more important as excercise than cardio for losing weight, but I like to do both. Lifting protects against losing muscle, which is easy to do when you're dieting.

When I got back to the US I decided to loose 5-10 pounds. Combined with exercise, diet and having a stomach virus during the holiday season, I weighed myself at 166 lbs this morning Now to keep it off....

I started back at the gym for about 2 months solid between Sept - Oct and got to 5'9 177. I stopped because I started to get sick, and haven't really been 100% yet, so I'm now back down to 168-170, but fat hahaha. The human body sucks eh?
