What's the skinny on flat feet??
I have previously (about 2 years ago) visited two separate podiatrists. I have one VERY flat foot, while the other has a half ass arch. It pretty much has kept me from playing sports. The effects aren't immediate, but rather cumulative I guess you could say. Even restaurant jobs where I'm not even running but just on my feet alot, I can really kill one of my knees and the flat foot. It hurts like a mofo.
One said flat feet can be fixed through a surgery that they can tighten the tendons or something or other in the feet and it will restore the arch.
The other said surgery won't do really anything.
I know I could get professional orthotics made, but I don't want have to deal with that the rest of my life if I don't have to.
Hey....at least I can't be drafted!! lol

You have a pair of those shoes?? They're definitely unconventional. lol
Ellipticals FTW. Before I tried one, I thought they were the treadmill for pansies.....
....I was wrong. You turn the resistance up and raise the crossbar....
I've walked out with my legs feeling like jello. lol

Drifting
I've got messed up feet too. I could barely run in middleschool and highschool, my feet would flex and the muscle on the bottom would eventually feel like it was on fire. I got some orthodics but they were so bulky I never wore them, but in the past few years I've been able to run/jog without pain for the most part.

Oh Hullow
i have flat feet as well...it hasnt really stopped me from playing sports or anything, but i probably am a lot more sore afterwards than people with a normal arch. it was more of a problem when i was really out of shape, it isnt so bad anymore though... just wear a pair of running shoes with one of those gel sole inserts to ease the impact.

I have flexible arches. When I am sitting my foot gives the appearance of a perfect arch.
When I stand...they be flat.
When I work I am standing for 12-14 hours a day...it blow, and I eventually developed planar fasciatis which really blows.
I have since seen a podiatrist and had orthodics made for my feet. They help a little.
Whiskers....MBT do nothing for flat feet.
The only shoes I can wear with orthodics are my echoes....and im heavily invested in several pairs of those...they are the best, and have amazing arch support.

those dr.scholls gell shit doesnt do shit for you and is all bullshit.. Ive been working at a diabetic shoe and insert company for 6 years (starting at 12) and been around functional orthotics as well (the plastic ones). You guys need professional orthotics... Basically if you guys want soft go with the accommodative orthotics..
Those are EVA/Poron/Plastazote softer than the plastic functional ones but better than those shitty gel ones..

Those MBTs look comfortable but not exactly nice looking... and holy crap are they expensive!!
So are they actually beneficial/work for something at all?

I long distance ran for years in Nike Air running shoes with an extra arch and played BB in Jordans with the same setup... the Nike shoes are built on a really narrow last which helps to support your foot and redue rotation of the heel too.
...also, since I was in medical school and on my very flat feet for a huge amount of time ... Birkenstocks are a HUGE help... They might not be pretty ... but there is no other shoe (without orthotics) that can even come close...

I now drive an accord....
I have flat feet as well. It has never stopped me from doing any activity. Sure my feet hurt, but oh well. Grow a set and keep on going
Don't be so fast to assume that it will keep you out of the military. Ive known several guys to go into the army with flat feet. Not that we have a draft, but if we do I wouldn't count on that to keep you home.
