Weight Lifting tips...?

Hi,

I rescently got injured about 4 months ago and that put me on my ass for a few months, my muscles went to shit and i got really weak. As of about the last month i'v been trying to rebuild at the gym, im about 6" 250 pounds pritty fatty kid. i bench 135 LB's 10 reps in 3-4 sets. I was rescently told that im wasteing my time doing so many reps and to increase my weight but lower my reps. the guy said something about muscle growth increaseing with higher weights but lower reps? i wanted to know what some of you guys thought and what do you think i should increase my weight to if i was to try and increase weight and rep less?

sorry for the horrible grammar just read it LOL
