How was philly?
This year was successful for me. I have run 3 marathons, one 45k, one 10 miler and a handful of shorter races. I am closing in on 1700 miles for the year, but i think i might fall short. My goal was 1600. I qualified for Boston and ran a pr for the marathon 3:10 and 1:07 for the 10 miler. The 45 was the hardest thing i did this year. It was 90-95 for most of the race and it really kicked the crap out of my body. I didn't like the heat too much after that and my body didn't react well to it afterwards. I was always looking for a/c.
I don't know what i am planning for 2017. I don't need to do as many marathons since i have qualified and they take a good amount of time to do. But, i may convince my wife to run the wineglass half marathon on October. I am guestimating a 1:45-50 finish for her if she runs it.

Philly was good overall, but it was VERY windy and cold. The crowd support was great, the out and back at the end had mixed reviews, but the overall course was nice. I did PR my marathon time at Philly, but I started having issues around mile 16 or so after running a consistent 10-10:30 pace. The week after Philly I PR'd my half marathon time in Columbus (finally got my sub 2 hour), then PR'd my 10k time the following week at the Christmas Story race in Cleveland.
For 2017, I'll be focusing on speed for and not doing any marathons. My times for the other distances are starting to look more consistent to how they should. IF I do another marathon (2018 or later), I should be able to take at least 30 minutes off of my current marathon PR.
Current PR's in case you were wondering:
5K - 22:43
10K - 50:31
13.1 - 1:54:23
26.2 - 5:01:20

Congrats on the PR. Finishing one in those conditions is extremely hard. there are so many times your brain tells you to quit. Judging by your half times, you can get down to 4 hours. Sometimes having the right training program and staying injury free is key. I took a couple years off between marathons. I think part of it may have been injuries, but who knows. Keep up the great work. You will meet your goals.
Congrats on your 2016 runs! I can only dream about Boston (unless I do it for charity). Wineglass is a good time, especially going to the wineries afterwards.

Ran the Cap10K today. Whipped my time from last year at 44:44.
Free Oskar Blues at the finish this year too!

2017 was a shitty year. I was short of 800 running miles, but i had over 500 miles biking. I had purchased a new one to supplement my running. I have had plantar for most of 2017 and after a 2nd different PT, i am feeling much better. I need to start training for Boston but have to be careful with increasing my mileage. My hip and foot are incrementally getting better.
I have a 10k and 10 miler scheduled for march, boston in April and possibly a half two weeks later. I may run another trail half in early march too so my schedule for the spring is already busy.

How often do you guys get new running shoes? I've had a pair since July and i'm going to have to throw them out already.

I usually get about 350 miles out of a pair, rotating two pairs during training. I usually pick up last years model on close out and start using a zero mile pair right about the time the second pair is at about 175 miles. That way both pairs are straddling the median wear point. I've also got a pair of lighter weight racing shoes that last a lot longer, calendar wise, but I'll replace with fewer miles, closer to 200.
I realized that it pretty cheap insurance to replace shoes sooner than later. No sense in trying to eek out a few more miles if it will result in injuries.

I typically get 350-500 miles out of my shoes. Congrats IMJ on your mileage. It takes a good amount of time out of your day to accomplish that. How are you doing on half or full training? Do you have any races scheduled?

You are very lucky. I was short of 800 miles this year. I was off 2.5 months with plantar and i haven't been able to be consistent with my mileage as i nurse my foot back into shape.

The next big marathon here is in a month and half but I'll be skiing
I hear yea; I also have plantar fasciitis but not as bad as you luckily. Sometimes on a long run the bottom of my foot starts hurting pretty bad and on occasion I have to stop for a minute and take my shoe off and let my foot rest. I should be doing something about it

One on the right for me
Revisiting this thread after quite an absence. I've slowly started to migrate more from road running to trail running. There are quite a few races that occur regularly that are 90-95% trails that are held year round. Right now I'm comfortable with doing halfs. I did the a marathon that was put on by Northface two years ago and that sucked as I pretty much just had the fitness for a half. 5,000 feet of climbing sucks.

You are right about the trail races being harder, they beat your ass.

^Yikes. Can only remember having the flu twice but it was horrible. Last time was about 4 years ago... had a nice steak for dinner. Woke up a few hours later feeling like death and puked it up after a ton of diarreah lol. Didn't eat steak for at least half a year after that.
Get well soon. That flu thing is going around damnnn!

2 months until Boston. I have held 35-40 mile weeks for a month now and this tells me that PT has been doing wonders for me. I ran my 8 mile workout yesterday instead of today and it really felt good. It was to run 2 miles east and then alternate 1/2 marathon and marathon pace for the next few miles. I nailed 6:50 and 7:20 pace for the first time in a long time. The foot is feeling pretty good now. It's not 100% but i am taking care of it.

Less than a month to go and i have received my packet for Boston. So far things feel decent. I have had steady 40+ mile weeks for some time now. I am very confident in knowing i can run the entire thing after having much of 2017 off due to injury. I'm getting pretty excited. It's like christmas, except for runners.

How you look forward to running those miles and I don't even want to drive them. #facts
