Sleep Paralysis

I been getting this lately in the middle of the night. When it first started happening it was the scariest thing ever i use to wake up, i couldn't move anything, and tried to yell but nothing would come out. Now that i know what it is, i tend to be a little less scared when it happens and do some of the things they suggest to do. It usually lasts maybe 30-45 secs? but feels like forever. Some times i don;t know if it really happened or if it was a dream. I've gone through it maybe 9 times so far, i think its due to my shitty work schedule.

I was just wondering if any of you experienced this and what is your take on it?

What is sleep paralysis?

Sleep paralysis consists of a period of inability to perform voluntary movements either at sleep onset (called hypnogogic or predormital form) or upon awakening (called hypnopompic or postdormtal form).

It typically is a neurological disorder, and often associated with narcolepsy. Its not really dangerous, just more of a neusance.

BTW I'm a registered sleep technologist. You could have a sleep study done to see if anything else is going on before it occurs. Alot of times you can have OSA, which can cause a lack of oxygen, but it isnt proven to be linked with sleep paralysis.

yup, this has actually happened to me before.. It feels like someone is in the room with you and at the same time, I am trying to yell and move, but it doesn't happen, I just look like i'm asleep, helplessly trying to get help.. It's pretty scary.. I've had it happen a couple times...

I have this from time to time too. Usually if I fight it hard enough I can manage to move but it's not fun. The girlfriend says I gasp for air as I wake up as if I stopped breathing for a while. I'm tortured every night with nightmares so bad that I hate to go to sleep and I don't drink or do drugs.

How much do you weigh? Not being able to breathe is more an indication of obstructive sleep apnea, which isvery easily fixable.

210 but I'm barely 7% bodyfat so I don't think that's what it is. I get this feeling of pure evil that can't be described with words. It's completely overwhelming. When I was younger I woke up to my dad breaking down my bedroom door because while I was fighting this thing in my sleep I had punched and kicked a 6 foot section of wall out next to my bed.
