run..run....run..nomore.
ok guys so this was my source of health for the last 6 years...
monday: 7-10 miles
tuesday: 4-6 miles + 30min weight room
wednesday: 7-10 miles
thursday: 4-6 miles + weight room
friday: 3 miles
saturday: 9-12 miles
sunday: rest day
every other TUESDAY ill switch up the work out.
ill run either:
(8) (400meters) with a minute rest in between and around 65 secs for each
or
(20) (200 meters) jog the first half of the lap (200 meters) then sprint the other half (200 meters) i try to keep them at around 27 secs each
these two work outs are for speed!!! (they burn like a biatch)
i just moved and decided i quit... doing some boxing now, and im also thinking about picking up a bicycle for road racing
not sure tho... road racing sounds the best.
BTW: MONDAY, WED, SAT...WERE ALL RUNS IN THE MOUNTAINS OR CANYONS. TUESDAYS, THURS, WERE CITY RUNS..

i tried running for like a week (usually early as hell before work), and I just don't have the discipline.
#4
eh...im tired of it, looking for something new
the first 2 weeks are the hardest, if you can make it past those 2 weeks youll be fine

I used to cycle alot when I was in college with my roommate. Haven't for awhile, but this spring going to start up again as I am getting to know the area I live in better now. I don't think there is anything like getting on a road bike and just riding as hard as you can for as long as you can. Mountain biking is fun and also something I partake in, but I just don't think you can get the same type of fitness workout on a mtn bike as a road bike. Get a road bike a do a century. Great fun.

I can't run with others because the pace is always off, at least with the people I've tried running with so far. I want to go a little faster but they hang back and I keep having to slow down and look back to make sure they hang side by side with me. But that is why I have my Ipod

It seems like there are a bunch of current avid cyclists on the forum that would probably know more. Astro is the first that comes to mind.

There are plenty of good bikes out there, Felt, Trek, Specialized, Giant, Bianchi, could go on and on. If I was you I would do some research and see what brands you like then go get an idea of your frame size from a local bike shop. Once you purchase the bike, you can bring it into a shop and get the bike set up for your body if you are serious about starting to ride. Once you know your required frame size, etc. you can go searching for a used one. I bought mine new back in 2000, it is a Giant TCR1 that I got for $1100 from a local shop. Guessing you could get a decent used roadie for around $600-$700
maybe ill stick to running....

LOVE cycling-picked up a Pinarello FP5 this year, set a goal of doing at least 2500 miles. Hit that 1st week of August and got to 4001 by 11/5 when I cleaned it up and put it away. I spent the $$$ knowing I would use it a lot and haven't looked back.

naaahhh, it's too cold in Buffalo for that, not to mention the snow depth! Besides, I got my spinning classes 3x/week; telemark/alpine skiing 3x/week so I'm good for the winter.

That works -- there's not really enough snowfall around here for the depth to be a constant problem, and not really enough snowfall or hills for there to be other great winter activities!

first thing first. i need to buy a bike. also, i eat pretty much anything, i dont have a diet and ive been performing very well at events. can i keep such diet?
another thing is the training... i heard this requires enormous amounts of it. is that true?

Just did 5 hours straight on tele skis-great quad builder. We have gotten 71" of snow already in Ellicottville which is a ski town about 40 miles south of Buffalo. Sick! Jackson Hole is at 0 (as of last night); Alta is reporting 18" thus far. The snow is phenomenal, I haven't seen it this way since I was a kid it seems.

I personally don't keep a very rigorous diet; how flexible you can be depends on you.
As far as time training, I've heard a good ballpark is around 10-12 hours per week of serious training before overtraining typically begins to occur. I don't think that's an unmanageable time commitment.

Running is the only thing that keeps me sane. Unfortunately I hurt my knee a year ago and I'm just now able to run again. I didn't know how to train for a marathon so I did 12-16 miles a day every day without a day off for a month and a half. The knee started hurting one day while I was running so I took a vicotin, ran another 5 miles and that killed the knee.
I know everyone is into road bikes but I've found mountain biking is great for keeping in shape. For me, I'll ride for a couple hours and it's so much fun it doesn't feel like a workout. I'm more likely to stick to it that way.

how handsome I am
I used to go running all the time.. till I did something to my right knee. I havent been able to run more than 10 mins or so anymore before it starts to hurt again. It may be the shoes I use.. but I feel it every now and again so Im not sure.
Makes me sad.. right when I was hitting a good stride (30~mins 4.5 miles) I was really using the running as therapy to help with stress from work.
I sure as hell am getting real itchy to try again soon though...

thaks, the best part about it was that i used to beat the sprinters at my school on the 400 meter run. i never did any sprint training, i figure if i did i could have gone 48.? in the 400m. i gave up running for now. i also bought a punching bag and hung it up im my garage bout a month ago. im taking up boxing
