Rib bruise/break?

Last Sunday during an outdoor soccer game I collided pretty hard into a goalkeeper with the left side of my body. At impact it hurt but for the next two days I was just fine.

All of a sudden on Wednesday I have this bad pain in my chest, but only the left side of my chest right behind the pectoral area. Ever since then, it hurts like hell to take in large breaths, hurts to move my upper body, and sneezing and coughing is very painful.

At first I thought it was just a pulled muscle or I slept on it wrong since the collision happened 3 days prior, however I then noticed a pretty decent sized yellow/green bruise on the upper part of my left arm which linked this to the collision.

My buddy thinks I probably bruised or did something to my upper rib/s. Think that is a valid assumption? I've never had any pain like this for so long.

Of course I am going to call my doc on Monday and plan on getting an X-Ray, but til then I'm just trying to get some more input. I have another game tomorrow and although I want to play because it is the playoffs, I know I shouldn't.

Not sure there's much they can do even if you did break a rib... it just heals on its own. I would see the doc anyway.

i have this happen once in a while. if it was a break, you'd know. the pain is indescribable. probably just a fracture/stress fracture. ice it down, take an ibuprofen to help u sleep and not wake up from the pain, and try to sleep on the side opposite the injury. take some calcium supps milk or OJ w/ calcium if your lcatose intolerant. if it is a fracture, usually 4-6 weeks to heal, all you can do is wrap it or let it be. I.C.E. ice compress elevate.. in this case, just stay off it and take it easy. Hope the doc gives you good news & better drugs

Sounds like what everyone else says. But I'll +1 the xray just to be sure.

I know what you mean about the pain too. I fractured a couple of ribs once (fell out of my attic above the garage - stupid pull down ladders) Landed on my side on the nice, soft cement slab.

Sneezing is the absolute worse as you know it's coming, there's no way to stop it, and you know it's going to hurt like a bitch!

Well it's feeling a little better now (I don't know if it is actually 'better' or if it is the hydrocodon).

But I got a buddy who works at a medical testing place and he's gonna take an x-ray for me tomorrow.. for free! no waiting in line for 2 hours and paying a stupid amount of money for it.

Two bruised ribs. Still hurts a little to take deep breaths but overall it's much better. I'll be just fine
