Question Quick Calorie Burning Question

How many calories does the average body burn without cardio? I'm trying to figure out how many calories I burn while I'm working, sleeping, living, etc. So that when I do cardio, I know how many calories I'm burning in excess of my general daily caloric intake. I'm trying to create a calorie deficiency here, but I don't know if I should do more cardio or not. The safe/easy answer is to probably keep doing more cardio.

There's no easy way to tell. I maintain at about 2500 calories/day, i have a friend who has to eat over 3500. Some people on forums i visit get fat eating just 2000.

Like i said in the stickies, 10-12 * your weight (or lean mass if you're a real fatty) is a good baseline. Try it for two weeks and see what happens. Adjust up or down by 250-500 and repeat. It can take some time but that's the only practical way to figure it out.

you can also for 'resting metabolic rate calculator', or something like that. It will give you an idea of what you burn daily.

ok let me get this str8.

I am trying to understand this calorie thing.

It states of course that you will lose weight if you take in less than what you burn.

Given this formula to calculate our RMR's..
Meaning the amount of CALORIES OUR bodies burn just by living your normal life, no exercise no nothing. Just going to work and doing what you normally do. Correct?

So in my case,,,,
this is the formaly given.

Males: 66+(6.22 x weight (lbs)) + (12.7 x height (inches)) - (6.8 x age)
ME: 66+(6.22 x 210 lbs) + (12.7 x 69 inches) - (6.8 x 24)
='s to 2085.3 calories.

So meaning that my body is burning USING ( or NEEDS as they say) 2085.3 calories.

My confusion is they say NEEEED. meaning that if i intake LESS than this and exercise of course it sounds like i will burn more and lose fat. But will the body work properly? i mean.. You guys that know some of this things. With the numbers given. Would say that i would do good if i eat about 1500-1800 calories a day and go to gym and also ride bike for about an hour a day? Then the body will not have the calories it NEEDS(as they say) to work properly( heart, lungs, kidneys...etc...)

If you take in 1800 calories and your body NEEDS 2000 to function the remaning 200 will be produced by burning your extra fat thus "losing weight"

Unfortunately, that's what I'm gathering at this point. I think I need to start taking in even less, or do more cardio.

Yes, it'll work just fine until its energy stores are depleted, or get REALLY low. You'll break down and go to the fridge before that happens

As has been said before, shoot for 500 below maintenance. You can also find sites that'll calculate about how much energy you burn doing different exercises. Combine those with your resting metabolic rate for info. Remember that those equations gave you an estimate, they aren't the end-all be-all "you burn exactly this," just a guideline. If your activity burns 800 calories in addition to your 2000 every day, shoot for 2300 calories in a day. Do that for two weeks and see what happens.

How long have you been taking in your current amount at your current activity level?

duuhhh. i feel dumb.

well. I guess i will aim for 1800 and try that to see how it goes.
By the way WHISKERS.. that site had an awsome descriotion on everything that i was wondering. And thanks to you too ABRREECE(spelling)..for all the info you have in the stickies.

but i am going to PM you later on, on that workout you posted as a sample,, because in www.crucialfitness.com this guy explained the whole 5x5 routines and they seemed great. But have to change it up now. Getting bored of it.

If your weight and strength have stayed the same, that's plenty of time to indicate you need to take more out. Drop 500 calories and try again

The sample i posted isn't what I do, it's just something i noticed a lot of people really liked. I probably should have included my own workout; that sample is a little too intense for losing weight IMO (but it's GREAT for getting big). Keep in mind that the workout is a personal thing, so feel free to change yours a little bit from what others suggest.

ok i did this.

You think this is healthy. This is more or less what I will start eating. of course you know now and then throw in beef, instead of chicken, or fish.. and waffles to cereal.. but more or less this would be my calorie intake.. i used the FITDAY website to calculate these numbers. I think at this rates i will burn fat!!!!

it starts with:

What I ate:

Where my calories are comming from:

Activities:

Where did I burn my calories:

And the amount of calories burned.

Fitday is neat stuff.

Gunnme, what are your numbers (height/weight)?

That fitday "calories burned" number is just an estimate. Those calculators say i burn about 2500 calories just sitting on my ass. HAH, i wish.

Remember, aim for 500-1000 calories below maintenance. IF all those numbers are correct and you burn 3600/day while taking in 1600, you're gonna feel like crap. When you aren't trying to lose weight, about how many calories a day do you take in?

Yeah, that's a shit-ton of calories. I'd try going to be at 2500-3000 for a few weeks, then 2000 if you aren't seeing results. Going from 4k to under 2k is gonna be a big shock on you, and you might have trouble sticking with it.

yeah i am going to stick to 2000. a day. WEll i mean its not like a big shock becuase i would say i take in alot becuase i eat fried food u know. i can eat the same but leaner food items. So i will watch out and make it 2000.00 for 2 weeks. see how it goes. Yesterday i had about 1600 plus a protein shake maybe not more than 250 calories. not sure. but i was ok. ALOT of water. went to gym. Dont feel that bad.

this is what i ate this today up to lunch. still need dinner.

So abreece. with my info., i calculated with other formulas found online. that my body burned about 2100 calories a day.. if i eat about 2000, then work out and run or whatever. anything over the 2100 it will burn fat to use energy from correct?

Good more protein.

Correct. However, keep in mind that those calculators are just estimates. Your body could be using more or less than what those equations gave you. The only wait to be sure is to try it out.
