Question on Creatine

How long is it good for?

When I was moving out of my townhome last week I found an old tub of creatine that I had forgotten about. I couldn't find any expiration date on the container. I opened it and it was all clumped together , but could be broken apart fairly easily. My best estimate is that I bought this tub in 2002 and I've had it in my cabinet ever since.

So is it useable or should I just buy another tub if I'm looking to start using it again?

It sounds like it was exposed to some moisture. That causes creatine to break down and become useless, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was "less potent". Also old creatine like that will be creatine monohydrate, which has been replaced with CEE (creatine ethyl ester? i think?). CEE is a lot better.

The short answe? Creatine is dirt cheap. Just buy some more.

This CEE stuff, has all creatine switched to that? The stuff that I have is just the GNC monohydrate stuff. If I go back to GNC will they have the same stuff with ethyl ester?

Or is there a better place/brand to get?

If it has switched it'll say on the label that it's CEE.

GNC is overpriced. I recommend 1fast400.com. Optimum Nutrition is a solid brand.

Just in case anyone else is curious about the Creatine Ethyl Ester that essentially improves upon the monohydrate stuff, here's a link......
