Question about diet and performance

Sup guys, lately I've been running every single day for about 40 minutes outside, but I also haven't been too strict on my diet. I haven't been eating garbage, but it doesn't have stellar nutritional value. My question is If I exercise enough, can I still maintain my phsyique(sp)? but at the same time eat normally ie ease up on diet but not go overboard and eat shitty? (I don't consider oats, chicen breast, can of tuna, egg hites etc normal eating). Another question is does it effect my sporting performance? Say I run a 6:30-7:00 minute mile everyday, but If I start slipping on my diet will it reflect in my time?

I think it depends on your physical state right now. If you're overweight and you are trying to increase your metabolism, I would think that you would seriously need to consider having a healthier diet along with exercise. After you have built up your metabolism and lost some weight, it should be easier to maintain your physique. This is what I've found on my own.
