Protein Shakes

So i am going to start going to the gym next semester alot more and school and try to bulk up alittle more. I have been looking around here and I decided I would pick up some whey protein and try it out. What I am wondering is what can i easily mix it with in my dorm room, with no blender. I thought I heard somewhere orange juice?

The one I've tried and liked a LOT is "All Whey" by "AllMax Nutrition". Vanilla flavour. Mixed in plain skim milk (about 1 - 1.5 cups), it tastes just like a very good gourmet vanilla ice cream. Its surprisingly good!

You don't have to mix these in blenders -- they even say you can simply mix w/ water, but I like the taste of milk + vanilla better.

the only time you'll need a blender is if you want to mix it with fruits and ice...to make a smoothie. you don't have to make smoothie type protein drinks. some powder tastes fine with just cold water (i noticed usually the ones that are thick with just water is prob best tasting with only water). there are some that arent thick and you can mix those with any juice, preferably 100% fruit juice.

I use Optimum Nutrition chocolate flavor. Mix it with water or milk. no blender needed, just use a shaker bottle.

a lot of the chocolate, vanilla, strawberry shakes won't taste good mixed with water. Something like this is a lot better for your situation.

I've used Jay Robb's Vanilla Whey Protien and that was OK mixed in skim milk.

It takes time to get used to. Have you tried the type of protein I posted?

BTW you should always mix with water.

How much of a difference does this stuff make? Starting two weeks ago I have been going for about an hour and a half to the weight room after school.

I can say right now I NEED more protein in my diet. So curls, can ALL MAX be purchased at GNC? If it tastes as "Good" as you say it does, I'll pick it up.

Thanks,

Mike

No idea, as for one, I'm in Canada (use Popeye's for supplements here, not GNC... Popeye's is much better). And two, I only know it tastes good because I had 4 sample packets from GNC (Ok, so GNX is good for something!).

I think you'll find MUCH better deals online (someone mentioned bodybuilding.com) than you will at GNC....

Personally, I have known GNC to be absurdly overpriced, as are a lot of other nutrition stores. I woud suggest purchasing supplements online.

I was using Muscle Milk for the longest time until I realized it had glycocyamine in it... bummer because that is the best tasting shake out there.

I make mine with milk (1%) because milk has a lot of protein in it by itself. However, the protein gets absorbed better with some sugar, so I usually grind up some frozen fruit and make a real shake with a bit of frozen yogurt. Although not having a blender would suck.

I agree, it tastes great.
Whats so bad about glycocyamine?

I like muscle milk too, although I'm about to get off it since I need to lose a little weight.

I think that the body building community is split down the middle on this topic. I have been reading threads on it for the past couple years... This is the article that kept a lot of people away from it. Although I dont think there are any human studies on it.

http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=1231523

After reading a little bit more, its turns out in December, Cytosport pulled glycocyamine from MM. Good news.

I think Optimum whey is DISGUSTING!! Either Muscle Milk, Muscle Milk Light, Beverly International, or Dymatize Elite Whey.

I have some Optimum Casein and it tastes nasty. I've got to blend it up with some ice cubes to help the flavor.

I remember I first tasted this protein mix that was a banana mix. I loved it. I bought a whole jug of this stuff and I absolutely hate it now. I dont know if it was my tastebuds reacting because it was something different other then chocolate protein shakes, but I'm just about 3/4's done with it and cant wait to switch back to chocolate.

I'm pretty sick of it by the end of a jar, no matter what flavor it is. variety is key.

Here a little trick my girlfriend taught me, and if its already posted, sorry, I haven't read through the posts yet.

Use water with any protein. If you are going to use 1 cup for example (just an example for easy numbers), heat it up in the microwave for 20 seconds. Then mix all the protein you are going to use in it. Becuase the water is warm/hot, the protein will dissolve completely, then mix the rest of the water in. No clumps!!

nasty...warm protein shake?? If you want it to mix easier, just put it in a blender or add a drop of vanilla extract.

ON ftw, also fitrx.com has a sale on their "max milk" which is supposed to be a direct competitor of muscle milk. It tastes pretty good, just not as good as the muscle milk, but for 6 2lb. jars for $35.95, it's a steal (~$6/jar). It's not my main protein, but I mix it with ON double chocolate in the morning with some milk, oatmeal, pb, and ice cream with ice to make a sick shake. Great recovery shake. 2 scoops of ON and water for post workout though.

what are some good places to buy protein online? I've been going to Vitamin Shoppe with $10 off coupons and getting Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex protein (55g/serving) for about $40, but I know there are better places.
