Is pizza junk food?

Just wondering what everyone thinks.

When I look at pizza, it seems to me that the individual components aren't really that bad for you.

If you have a couple slices of pizza for a meal, it's not THAT many calories. Unless you get lots of meat toppings, most of the fat will come from the cheese. Cheese isn't that bad for you in moderate quantities.

The way I look at it is in its components:
-White dough (starch)
-Cheese
-Sauce

The white bread is the killer for me. Some shops have wheat pizza, which I will eat.
The cheese isn't great (fatning)
Sauce is fine.

A place near me used to have a pizza with sausage and cheddar cheese on wheat crust that was awesome. The pizza tasted better with wheat crust than white crust.

Actually I changed my mind.

Junk Food means that it has little or no nutritional value. Pizza actually does (calcuim, carbs, etc.), so no, its not junk food. But, it's also not health food.

It can be health food though. Wheat crust with tomato sauce and fresh veggies. Pizza can be anything you want it to be.

Well, I think it all comes down to the crust type and toppings...

For instance, I think a thin-crust pizza on whole wheat with moderate amount of cheese, peppers, mushrooms, onions, and maybe some sort of meat (used sparingly) is quite healthy...

You can do the same logic to a lot of foods.

Ex. Nachos are junk food, but replace the chips with something healthier (veggie chips), use light ingredients and lots of veggies and now its healthy.

nachos can be healthy if you use veggies instead of chips and lowfat yogurt instead of cheese.

In fact, with the exception of sugar and candy, most "junk foods" can be converted into health food. Ice cream, chips, pretzels, etc.

Not really, because then its veggies and dip. Pizza is dough with sauce and toppings. There are no rules and it comes in very different forms. Its like asking, is soup healthy? Is a sandwich healthy? Well, it can be but not always.

Honestly Whiskers life to me would be a living hell. I love food and I love to eat. My grandfather lived into his 90's eating WHITE breat pizza, sausage, cheese, and drinking a shitload of wine.

Eat lots of fruits and veggies, get lots of excercise, and you will be fine.

It may be a rule that Pizza is white bread, whole fat cheese and heavy sauce. Is it still pizza if you use wheat, low fat cheese and a light sauce?

Nachos have one rule as far as I know (tortilla chips with salsa).

that's "chips and salsa"

nachos are chips smothered with cheese with some jalepeno rings thrown on top. Perhaps some meat, if you like packing in some meat, like dom does.

But this is not a rule. I have pizza with no sauce and just some olive oil and few other ingredients. Its great and it certainly pizza (very traditional pizza too)

Of course.

Like I said, pizza is like a sandwich.

If I were going to the mall, and if I lived in Toronto (like fdl and dom), I'd get a big bag of Kernel's double butter popcorn.
