It's a fact of life. Surprisingly I went to another location that's typically packed on Tuesday night and it was pretty dead. Bench press no problem. Dumbbells easily found. Butterfly even ready. Maybe because the 1st was observed Monday it pushed everyone back to next week

this is what I'm thinking too, my gym has been dead. I love it because I don't have to wait for the squat racks

I absolutely fricken hate it. Not only is it packed, not only are all the machines taken, not only is it now packed with people who have no fricken idea what they are doing and do not appear to care to want to learn....but they are also doing construction in the parking lot making it FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE to find parking without waiting 20 minute before all of this happened.....FUCK!

Felt good to get that out of my system.

Speaking of newbs, saw this kid on the squat rack oh man oh man. Luckily he only had on there like 65# so he wouldn't kill himself but he probably weighed about the same after a lasagna. He would overhead press the bar awkwardly over his head to behind his head. Then he probably squatted like literally 6 inches down. On his last set he almost dropped it and stumbled. I think he caught giving me an look at the girl in the rack next to him. He ran off after thank God.

Haha see that is exactly the shit I am talking about! They have no idea what they are doing. I swear when I first started going to the gym I started off really slowly and learned new machines gradually. It wasn't until a month to a month and a half in that I started splitting the week into leg day, chest day...etc.

As you seen a couple weeks ago, I didn't even attempt the squat rack for a whole year because I wasn't sure how to do it. Other machines/exercises were easier to do or more self explanatory. Don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with people trying to get physcially fit...it's just DAMN at least try and learn about what you are doing and why before doing it. Or at the very least observe people who look like they are reasonably fit and see how they are doing things (this one can be a hit or miss, I still prefer to google youtube vids of certain exercises WAY before attempting them).

I still shake my head at those people who come in wearing jeans or the ones who are like a group of 8 guys practically holding each others dicks the whole entire time crowding up the place for no reason.

Yup, if it wasn't for the personal training sessions I paid for, I probably would've never gotten into squatting and deadlifting. Would've been too scared to know what to do. Also scared for my back.

totally worth the money. And luckily the trainer I got is knowledgeable, his advice falls inline with a lot of the good lifters on YouTube

College chicks tend to go to the college gym because that is where college guys go....boy do I miss my old University and it's massive 2-level gym

Question for you guys:

What do you recommend I eat before hitting the gym? My biggest issue is that if I eat too heavy, I can't go for a while, if I eat too light I get hungry again quickly and nothing is worse than working out while hungry and I am always paranoid my blood sugar will drop I am not diabetic, or even pre-diabetic or anything thankfully, just have a hyper-fast metabolism and am paranoid because it does drop suddenly but infrequently and I don't always see it coming.

The reason I ask now after having gone for a year is because I have gone the last couple times 2-3 hours after eating a decent meal and was really hungry...but I was facing a dilemma of should I eat now and go on a full stomach or wait another hour, or should I just go...I can't really think of what to eat that won't be too heavy but is still calorie dense? Should I be taking pre-workout?

Thanks in advance.

You are 100% right. I obviously would have to wait longer if I am going to be doing more intense lifts right. I guess I should restate my question to ask what are some quick snacks you guys have before going to the gym that you can have say 30 mins to an hour before going on a day where you are not squatting or deadlifting.

Toldja that fucker would be packed. At least more talent to see And of course squat racks uninterrupted

I'll just say what I do eating-wise around my workout but I'm no specimen. Eat lunch at noon and usually share a Cuban coffee with friends after. Around 2-3 eat a snack, typically Costco Unsalted Mixed Nuts, lift at 6ish, eat at 8-9 or so depending on when dinner is ready. I just eat when I'm hungry If I'm starving post-workout, I'll down a shake.

2nd video is the same as the first. The guy passed out because he snapped his back.

I am scared to watch that video to be honest. That looks extremely brutal. Do you think he ever walked again, let alone survived? Without watching the video, I am going to assume that it was obviously a case of too much weight and horrible form? Man that image of the spine makes me have goosebumps.

Seriously. Makes me really try to watch my form when deadlifting.

the video isn't too bad, you see him at the top of the lift drop the barbell. Then looks like he's flexing (or in pain) then he passes out.

Earlier today I also watched a video of some guy doing flat barbell chest press and this popping sound happened and he dropped the weights and looked in a lot of pain. It's nuts how some people can get really really hurt.

Day off yesterday so went to the gym with the wrong shoes naturally for squats. Wore my cross trainer Nikes with a slight heel instead of my flat Chucks which are my designated squat and deadlift shoes. I gotta tell you my squats were much easier. The elevated heel helped with my lack of flexibility even though it's not a heel made for weights like lifting shoes. I didn't feel like I was going to fall forward either which you'd think would be the case with the heel. I had programmed a 3x3 but ended up doing that while increasing the weight. Then went back down to the first working set weight wise and did 3 more sets. Going to try again and see how it goes. Next week is a heavy double day so I'm nervous. Def NOT using them for the deadlifts. Gotta stay flat on those since I gotta feel like I'm sitting.

With my shoulder (which is doing much better) and the holidays I more less was out of the gym for the last few weeks. I got in a few times for some cardio and shoulder stuff.

Today I made my way back and did full on legs...my legs are dead, haha. Trying to get work down around the house and I can barely stand or squat down. I'm really going to feel this on Thursday...

Come to think of it I hate one of my gym buddies sometimes. He is the most dedicated and peer-pressuring guy out of the three of us, and he's a fun person to lift with, but he throws dumbbells all the time and is extra loud and obnoxious. Part of his personality though, he's one of those "no such thing as an inside voice" guys.

so I picked up some nike romaleos 2 over the holidays as well as a pair of SBD knee sleeves. Omg squats are so much easier and the bounce the sleeves create to get out of the hole!

yesterday i went back to my old working weight of 265 before I deloaded to correct/work on my form, so much easier. Felt like I could've added on another 15-20lbs.

Is there a way to build strength in my legs without them getting huge? The last time I hit the gym religiously I did squats 3x a week and while my waistband got looser, my pants barely fit because of my quads.

Oh nice! Hopefully your next few sessions show nice jumps. Why did you get the sleeves?

You kind of hit an extreme there doing it 3x a week. Cut it down to once. I used to do it twice a week and yeah my quads really grew.

Why's everyone a bench press expert? I had two guys telling me stuff. One older like 50 something year old skinny ref was telling me not to wait longer than 2 mins between sets. Then as I'm getting spotted by another dude on my 3x3 worksets (pretty heavy for me) starts telling me as I lift to not touch my chest because I can get more reps in. :que: No shit sherlock. It's called cheating. Why do they insist on telling me how to lift and only on the bench?

I got them to help out with my knees. Not really feeling pain but more like discomfort the next day or two after squats.
but it's gotten better, been properly stretching, warming up and foam rolling the shit out of my quads and adductors(?) before and after squatting. Making sure I'm getting to depth, knees not tracking in, right feet distance and angle. Etc.

i also noticed that I was Front squatting with my feet to wide (habit since I back squat with a wider stance) I've narrowed that up and it's helped.

i hate when people comment about the arch in my back when I bench. Mines not even extreme and my butt is still planted on the bench.
I usually just tell them to take a look at any power lifter

ohh and sometimes during my bench I stop the barbel about an inch above my chest. Something about increasing time under tension. But this is usually after my working sets and at a lower weight. I'll also do a few paused reps.

Yeah I'm sure it helps out some. One of the powerlifters I respect likes partial squats as a supplement. These guys do this shit as their main lifts :/

And yeah they don't get that the arch helps put your body up so that you don't damage your shoulders. Plus your feet aren't dancing like half of these guys.

Funny enough I read an article on BB, something about that partial squats are good if you just want to target the quads. But they did warn to watch out for your knees.

depends on how in-shape or out of shape you are... When I was training clients... the ones that were really out of shape would get a delay on the soreness... I find that to be the same case with myself. If I haven't been lifting for awhile... and I get back into it, the next day is okay... but the day after that is when it usually kicks in really hard
