never enough sleep ...

ok, so i just spent another restless night tossing and turning in bed and i'm sick of it. since high school i've had trouble: falling asleep, staying asleep, and even taking naps. i refuse to use sleeping pills because i've seen first hand how one can get addicted to them (QUICKLY).

i've tried a multitude of remedies:

- work out in the evening so i'm tired when it's that time to go to sleep
- not eating late so i don't get a burst of energy before bed
- "herbal" remedies
- "happy time" lol

yet none of this stuff works. PLEASE, any suggestions on how to improve my sleeping habits would be greatly appreciated. FYI, i wake up at the same time everyday (even on weekends) but i just can't seem to sleep.

thanks,
vinny

1)-workout harder!! make sure you have a 3 gap before end of workout and bedtime. EXHAUST YOURSELF.

2)don't look at the clock in the bedroom, i just causes anxiety.

3)keep the room completely dark and cold

4)get new pillows, nice sheets, perhaps a new bed. try everything. perhaps its some small adjustment that will turn everything around so you can sleep soundly.

Good luck

I have the same problem. Since HS as well. Your not alone. I've tried everything as well. Just recently got a foam bed & pillows. My doctor suggested that. After 2 months still the same.
I'm just living with it for now.

Could be your problem right there. Do you drink sodas as well? Cut all caffeine...

try reading "Numbers" in the Bible.

after a chapter or two, you'll pass out.

What do you do right before bed?

I find if Im on the net or watching TV I stay awake longer. Try reading a magazine, or cleaning or something else boring and routine before turning in.

Also - it could be that youre being overactive mentally. You have to mentally block anything else besides relaxing or sleeping or other thoughts like these. How comfortable your sheets are, how nice the silence is, how much better you feel when you have a good nights rest.

Gawd, I feel like going to sleep right now.

This has worked for a tad and getting better.
My doc asked me what do i have in my bedroom? "TV hanging on the wall, laptop, a ticking clock, and my cell phone as an alarm".

After that he suggested that i don't watch any tv in my room at all, if I'm on the computer try to do it else where computer table, living room another bedroom anywhere but my bed especially 2-3 hours before bed. Also not to eat on my bed/room not even snack. (I would watch tv laying on my bed, surf the web, sometimes eat, ) and take down the ticking clock.

I fazed all that out, now i wake up only once or twice a night and feel more refreshed and wake up earlier every week and feel much better. His words where "your bedroom should only be used for sleep, rest, and sex".

Like someone else said, leave at least 3 hrs between the end of your workout and bedtime. Any less time and you're still amped up. Also cut all caffeine. If you get tired around the office get up and walk around for a bit. Force yourself to go to bed earlier, this way if you toss and turn a bit, you're still falling asleep early enough to get a decent night's sleep. Finally, if you don't already, get a little fan in your room just for the noise. It will drown out everything else that might keep you up.

See if a local med university doesnt offer a sleep study program.

I know UCLA here does, I know someone who went and did a night there hooked up to shit. I dont know any of the results though.

melatonin has never failed me. I know you said no pills, but this is something that is naturally present in the human body. set aside 8 hours to sleep, take one (usually sold in 1mg or 3mg sizes), lie down and voila.

you can find melatonin at a gnc, vitamin shoppe, etc.

I think working out at night is a bad idea. Your heartbeat goes up, your all pumped up after a good workout, etc. Try just resting at night and change your workout schedule to the morning. my 2 cents

I was an insomniac until about two weeks ago when i started doubling up on a dose of Unisom. No other sleeping pills have ever worked for me. But this stuff knocks me out. Go try some.

i've been on about 4-5 hours of sleep for the last 2 weeks. it finally caught up to me on monday.

luckily, i requested today off from work so i got 12 hours of sleep last night.

usually, after that kind of sleep, i feel even more tired, but this morning, i felt strong and refreshed.

Ambien CR is good stuff. upon my recent return from Iraq i have had alot of trouble sleeping due to the 9 hour time difference. I am like you i hate taking anything or going to the doctor period but the little lady made me go and i do not take them every night nor do i feel like i need to i ussually take them every other night or every 2-3 nights and now i sleep great. well not great but pretty good. Never be afraid to give something a try. an addiction is nothing more than a lack of self control. I was addicted to Dipping for about 6 years but recently realized what i was doing and now i have completely stopped. GOOD LUCK with the sleep i know how hard it is when you are not getting it

another thing is me and the MRS. changed our style of making love. we used to just go at it and as soon as we both got ours we were done but now we enjoy it and take it real nice and slow and you would be surprised how bad it wears you out but in a great way. Try it if you can
