Need help choosing an elliptical to buy
So my 15 year old treadmill is on its last breath (yesterday I smelt smoke while using it). Considering it lasted 15 years without any maintenance, I'm happy...
I need to replace it; I'll probably choose an elliptical over a treadmill:
What I'm looking for:
1. A machine that I should expect to last years when using it regularly (5 hours/week)
2. At times I may push to my resistence, speed limits, but on average will use at the equivalent of a light jog.
3. Incline adjustment would be nice, but not necessary.
4. Don't need any fancy electronics/built-in-dvd-players/etc.
Questions:
1. What brands/models should I be looking at
2. What stores/websites should I be going to (I'm located in Boston)
3. Any tips on how to get a good deal
4. When I try it out at a store, what types of things should I try to pay attention to (I haven't been on an elliptical in over 18 months)?
My price range is $300-$750. Obviously I'd prefer to spend as little as possible; but I'd also like something that will be comfortable, can give me a challenge, and will be reliable.
At the upper end of my range, for $750 there is this -- Schwinn 438 on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-438-El...dp/B000E158CA/
At this end of the price range, is this a really good deal? Or can better ellipticals be had?
How about at the low end ($300-400), any particular models to try out?

Ended up getting this NordicTrack CX 938 for $300 at sports authority
http://www.nordictrack.com/webapp/wc...10301_21101_-1
I was looking to buy something better (in the $600-$700 range); but this one at $300 was too good of a deal to pass up. Best online price is about $500. On sale at Sports Authority for $400. Minus 25% off coupon.
I checked craigslist; almost bought one off of it. The asking prices on craigslist weren't enough of a discount to factor in used & not-in-warranty; also given that I really wanted to have it this weekend I couldn't wait around for the perfect craigslist deal...

I just bought the NordicTrack CX 998 for $350 off of a local ebayer. Machine has 3 hours on it. Considering last year this machine sold for $799, I think I got a pretty good deal.
