my biceps/triceps hurt like a mothaf....

I've done enough weights through my life that I know that when you get back to lifting weights, you have to take it easy. And that's exactly what I did, after a year of not lifting, I started lifting again 2 days ago and did it with very minimal weight. But my arms hurt so bad this morning, I had to take ibuprofen and even that is not working too well. Shit, I guess age and this damp cold weather today are not helping me any either.
Any suggestions to ease the pain?

I actually just started back after a year or so off the other week myself...like you, I started back at what I thought was minimal...my chest and abs hurt for a week. I couldn't work out the rest of that week it hurt so bad. I never took anything for the pain, I just lived with it...never been big on taking pills for anything. Started back the following week with a little less weight (felt like such a bitch)...progressing nicely now...almost back to where I was before I quit last year.

of course you know you should stretch prior hitting the weights. in your case, its wise to stretch before and after weight training. once you get use to it, you really don't have to stretch afterwards.

Hmm.. I've heard you shouldn't stretch before lifting (therefore causing more muscle damage), and you should stretch afterwards.

That's a good indicator that you need to lift more frequently.

bananas = potassium = helps minimize soreness.

Personally, I love being sore. Sucks when I am on set lugging heavy cases/camera around. But at least I now I did something.

Being sore after being out of the gym for awhile is the best...And I get that feeling a lot lately since I am only able to get to the gym like once a week if that right now but at least I know it means I'm working and making bank

i always find that if i'm sore a little light cardio or hitting the heavy bag lightly tends to loosen me right up.

but the burn is a good thing, i hate having what i thought was a good session then waking up in the morning with no pain...
