Some train in a style where ear irritation and injury is rare.
It doesn't mean one is tougher than the other.
Back in the day, I trained with guys who would purposely flick you in the ear.
Especially if they knew you were avoiding cauliflower ears.
Fuckers.
My current coach looks like Randy Couture (ears mostly, face somewhat too)
Only been in the BJJ game. But is highly skilled in wrestling, judo, and muay thai.

If you don't drain them, they harden. Fuck that.
Plus they become more prone to splitting / exploding.
Fuck no. lol.

It's not the needle.. it's the pressure that sucks.
After the drain, you press the fucking shit out of the ear to get the last bits.

Some guys get tired of repeatedly draining
Sometimes it's tough to get it all and it just ends up solidifying in pockets
Only a dumbass would want to do it purposely
Can you imagine being a shitstick with cauliflower ears and you don't actually know how to fight
I've met a few

I always like travelling vlogs that check out martial arts training around the world, they had a few series that were pretty good.
I saw this in my feed recently. Good watch.

So my 10 year old daughter is taking an MMA class. Day 1 they taught her an armbar but she has no idea how to pass guard. We go get some puzzle mats and roll in the living room Man she's like a damn bull and fast. I better not roll with a dude or I'll get my ass kicked

I don't like many MMA schools because many of them are are really masters of none
and the good ones that do have great trainers / coaches who are masters in one or multiple areas
are typically $$$ and filled with meatheads trying to be MMA stars
A highly regarded Jits school (not sport style) or judo school with an emphasis in newaza is a good bet
Because usually the good guys want to go there
and some of them will have a very strong wrestling / judo / muay thai background
They then start separate class sessions to teach or integrate those other disciplines
Regarding getting your ass handed to you by your 10 year old daughter
I've been worked by 15-16 year old kids who have half the training I do
It's not something you go into with an ego, because you'll get butthurt real quick
A belt just holds up your pants, or use to choke the other person
Really.. age, size, strength, natural talent, physique.. it all plays into it.
A belt just says hey, I've devoted time, sweat, and blood to this.
Doesn't mean that white belt who just walked in doesn't have a shot
If you can accept getting your ass handed to you day in and day out, you may see what it's all about
It's about your spirit, it's about control, it's about as honest as you can be with yourself

I know this dude that's a know it all narcissist. He is a BB in aikido and claims to know BJJ but his BJJ was so bad as I rolled with him once. He was showing me some aikido moves and they're so lame but he swears he's hot shit.

I met an Aikido BB some years back at a friend's BBQ
I was like.. you ever consider BJJ.
He said, Aikido was developed to counter JJ and that he knows all he needs to know to beat BJJ.

I'm not saying BJJ is the pinnacle of martial arts
But it's at least real application
Freestyle wrestling, catch wrestling, Sambo, Judo, all application
I really like Russian and Eastern Bloc wrestling styles and some regional folk styles too
Lots to learn from each other

After giving it a bit more thought, I will say it is cool to find out I was truly in the presence of greatness.
I got to meet him once as he'd attend the annual black belt test. I remember him having one of those
personalities that filled the room without saying a fuckin word. I mean, he was the man...so he was to be
revered but even his energy kind of demanded that.
And holy shit...just looked them up...they're not only still in business, they expanded. In the end it felt
like a money making scheme with them adding so many belts between belts and with a single mother making
ends meet, I pulled the plug on it when I was 14 and I lost my blind faith in what the place was about. I told
her they were hustling her and that was that. I always attributed my discipline and ability to make a rule and
stick by it to my Father (being Swiss and all) but maybe they did more good than I give them credit for. Either
way I used to throw a fucking mean tornado kick and reverse round house and man, if I could land either of
them I might have actually been dangerous.

I'm sure GM Diego Perez is a good martial artist, but I cringe when I see a school with different prescribed outfits and call themselves a black belt school. Like wtf does that mean.. most schools with that motto usually have some type system / curriculum to turn you into an instructor and start your own school.. IOW a system to milk money from you. TKD and traditional martial arts schools are good for kids. Builds good character, self-confidence, discipline, etc. But beware of schools that make you buy shit like textbooks, extras classes, and have like 15 belts before black. Belt test every month, being $200 for test fee. $1000 for black belt fee.

Shit I saw that gym next to Big Cheese in Miami. I read the slogan to my kids about how TKD makes better families and they're like yeah sure dad. Then we housed an extra large pie #betterfamily
