Late Night Snacking

Is this a major problem for anyone? I eat fine and healthy the entire day, but at night, when im just sitting there watching tv, i crave food, i just gotta eat. When I eat at night, i dont eat unhealthy, but its never just a small snack, i just keep eating until i either stop watching tv or realize how much Ive eaten. I find this to be somehwat of a major factor in why I find it difficult to lose weight even though I do cardio, workout, etc...

Anyone have any solutions to this? Thanks.

KC

Sheer willpower. Or try eating something more filling for dinner.

I was told to avoid carbs after 7 PM. I sometime run at night because of this.

This is a HUGE problem for me. I eat perfectly during the day, but during the night I eat bad shit. I crave sugar so bad during the night I've eaten straight sugar cubes on occassion. I have no idea why, I don't eat any sugar during the day (actually maybe thats why?). I wake up during the night because of it.

I guess it is a willpower thing, but so far I haven't been able to control it. I have such strong cravings for sugar I'm thinking of getting tested for diabetes

I loaded the house with low fat snack food because of this particular problem.

Try some soy-chips or plain popcorn...works for me. Since they're mostly air...you get all the jaw-motion of a big snack, but none of the fat/alot less calories.

Just a myth. Eating late at night won't make you fat. People stop eating after 7:00 PM and notice they lose weight. It's not because eating late will make you fat, it's just that they eat less.

If you eat over maintenance calories you gain weight, if you eat under you lose. Your body doesn't go "oh, he's asleep, better store it as fat!" If you aren't eating enough to meet your energy requirements it doesn't make sense for your body to not put that food directly into use. Even if it did hold onto carbs eaten at night as fat, you're still going to be in a deficit and your body would turn around and burn off that stored fat for energy.

I eat a personal pizza every night around 10pm. I've been doing that religiously since I was about 13.

I am not fat.

Maybe not fat, but a little strange to eat a personal pizza every night.

A good snack is Sugar Free Jello/Pudding, which is only 10 calories it might satisfy you. Or even some celery.

But I dont stop eating at anytime...30 min before I go to bed I have cottage cheese and natural peanut butter, good shit ;-)

I eat a light meal before bed. If I don't, my stomach hurts to the point that it feels like I'm being punched. It's really weird because I eat 5 or 6 times during the day (not including snacks even), and for some reason I'm always hungry at night, and when I wake up the first thing I do is eat. It just hurts sooo bad in the morning. I've actually gotten up in the middle of the night to eat sometimes.

Have you been to an endocrinologist for some blood tests? I know a guy who had a similar thing, and other quirks you've mentioned on this forum, and he was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. You might want to get your blood levels checked.

Yeah I've had blood tests done multiple times in the past. One of my problems is a shortage of ADH hormone, so I have to drink extra water. But the hunger doesn't happen unless I'm working out. When I was injured, I took a break for almost a month from working out, and my eating returned to less than normal for me. Remember, my waist went up almost 3 inches this year, and that's the pelvic bones and stuff growing outward. I need another trip to the physician about my knee, so I'll ask him then. I'm in that "second" growing phase that happens to some guys in their early to mid twenties. I was scrawny and now I'm just starting to lose the "wiry muscle" look and starting to bulk.

There's a second growing phase then? Never heard of that.

Apparently. That's what I was told. Guys don't really stop growing as early as girls. I think we stop growing in the early 20's. Some guys grow at a constant rate after the end of puberty, some don't, and then suddenly grow.

I think my feet have continued growing after my body stopped. I wore a 10 1/2 when I was 20, now I wear 11 1/2 and the last couple pairs I bought were 12's.

Weird! If this keeps up, you'll have to buy clown shoes by the time you're 70.
