Fatty

At what weight would you say a guy who is 6'3 is "fat"? Lets say average build...no stranger to the gym but hasn't lifted in years.

Just passed a milestone on the scale..and I'm starting to wonder.

I'm the same height and down to 190 from my normal weight of 200. Do you have a large or small frame? (broad shoulders and hips, etc.)

I have more of a muscular frame, so I look lean...not fat at all, but not skin and bones. If you were formally skinny and are now gaining weight, it will be harder to hide it than someone with a larger frame.

So I really can't judge it by your weight. What's the milestone?

BMI rating is a joke. When I was in the best shape of my life (3 sports a year, very little body fat, a good amount of muscle, etc) I weighed in at 210 lbs. BMI tells me I'd be obese at that weight. They say I should be 170 lbs at 6'1. If I weighed 170lbs i'd be a freaking Ethiopian

My goal is to get back down to 210-220 (at 260 now, I know i'm fat now). See how I look now at that weight.

FDL, it really depends on your body structure. I'm a big guy to begin w/ (very broad shoulders, wide frame, etc).

I don't really believe in BMI, but I'll have a look. The one size fits all formula is too simple IMO

I'd say my frame is on the large size.

You can't even tell from that -- I'm between 6'2 and 6'3, and 180 lbs. There's a world of difference between the builds on the two guys at those two heights and weights, and neither looks particularly like my build. The taller guy is wayyyy to skinny, and the shorter guy is too bulky.

fdl, what weight were you at when you were in your best shape?

When I was biking alot, I was down to about 185. I guess some would consider that good shape, but I was WAY too skinny for my taste. When I was lifting weights regularly I was about 205, with some decent muscle, and I'd say that's my ideal.

Now I've hit 225 and have a nice gut.

Exactly what I was thinking. It all depends on how broad your shoulders are, if you have long arms and big hands/feet, wide hips, etc.

That extra weight will show up and throw of any average weight ideas, as proven by that height/weight chart.

Well, you say you have a large frame, so 225 won't look as noticeable than if you had a small frame. It's still 40 pounds overweight if you go from your skinniest 185, so yeah, I would do something about it now.

People will notice you being that much overweight. Has anyone said anything about it?

It's not 40 pounds overweight, because I was way way too skinny at 185. I didnt look good at all.

No one's really said anything. I'd like to get down to 210 by summer.

^^ it's not just about frame... some people have large frames and have all their 'fat' weight in their gut... others spread it around...

i'm 6'4" and right now i'm about 225 - 230 with about 12% bodyfat... in my injury days when I couldn't work out at all I was closer to 240 and god knows how much bodyfat... that was too fat as far as I was concerned and as soon as I could i worked my ass off to get it off... much easier to keep it off than it is to get it off

weight isn't as important as fat to muscle... if you have a gut then IMO that's fat

That has to be off a little..? I am 5'11" and I put in 175 and I am at the upper portion of normal. I put in 140 and that puts me at the lower portion of normal. There is no way I would look healthy at 140 pounds!

Forget weight - the scale lies to you. Go by waist size. If you're more than 4" bigger in the waist than you were in high school, it's time for a little exercise.

Why do you need to lose weight? You're a scrawny little freak as it is

What was the lowest you were down to last year?

Still got a belly.. I'd love to get a 6 pack which I had when I was in HS. I went from 190 to around 173.. I don't know how much I trust my parent's scale though.

If you noticed the xmas fatty thread I lost a pound AFTER xmas dinner on their scale.. I think it is rigged. I did lose a lot of weight although I don't trust their scale.

Awesome! I'm 8 inches less in the waste than highschool

BMI, while I think is a good estimator can't really determine the exact weight you should be. Go by what you think you should look like. I'm 5'7" and weigh 155 - 160 pounds, and according to most websites I'm overweight, however I already have a 30" waste and feel about as slim as I want to be.

muscle and bone weigh more than fat, thats why BMI is too simple a formula to be accurate. But it's one indication that needs to be considered , along with others.

Isn't there a elbow or arm measurement that helps with that?
