C25k

Preface: I did a search and didn't come up with anything. I'm sorry if this has already been posted.

Has anyone followed the Couch to 5K program? I'm considering taking it on. Any thoughts or suggestions? I think I'm going to track by distance (not by time).

It works.

I've known many who have done it, I recommend it.

However, most I know who have done it, have done it by time, not distance.

Follow the schedule to the "T" and you will run your 5k with no problem.

I need to start it up again. It seemed like a sound program and there are several websites out there where you can get free tracks that will vary in tempo according to the time intervals.

I know this week is already half over, but I'm considering starting it tonight. I already run a bit, so I think week 1 will be quite easy for me. I can do week ones workouts on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Week 2 I'll start on Monday of next week and go from there. If I keep it up I'll be on week 9 the second week of December.

Have you checked out any local running stores Prissy? Almost every running store around us in Pittsburgh has a C25k program that you allows you to train in a group with other first time 5k'ers. Joining a group may help keep you motivated to finish it out. Either way good luck! Runnersworld.com can be a great resource also.

Thanks Hon - that's a great idea, except that I live in the middle of nowhere. My "running store" is a WalMart. Hoping to keep myself motivated with results (more energy, better stamina, maybe slimming a bit). I'm sure I'll keep up here on AZine too. Maybe Cochese will join me and start soon. (?)

LOL, I saw your location on the profile, but wasn't sure if that was just joking around or true! Here are some good articles from Runner's World:

Yeah, definitely true! Thanks for the links!!

So, in case anyone is interested - I started week 1 yesterday. Admittedly, it was a bit harder than I expected. I used to run pretty regularly, haven't been quite as good at getting that time in lately. It was still manageable, but I expected it to be a walk in the park and that it was not.

Other than to being in better shape and overall health, hoping to drop a few lbs. I'm starting at 125 which I think I cary pretty well for only being 5'1". I would love to be back at my pre-pregnancy 115, though. Having my hubs help me take some measurements tonight, which I will NOT be sharing - but I'll definitely share inches lost if any come off. Part of my motivation is definitely to be ready for surgery in January/February.

I'll be posting progress in hopes that y'all will help keep me on track and boost my motivation.
