Attention Baseball/Softball players!!

OK, here's the deal.

I'm 43, a little on the 'healthy side' when it comes to my weight, and play on two softball teams.

Keep in mind that I've played some kind of baseball or softball for over 30 years.

I'm having a real tough time staying healthy. The achilles tendon on my right foot have been hurting for the past four weeks, it doesn't seem to want to heal.

Someone told me that it could be my cleats.

Right now I'm playing with a 3/4 top Nike Air conversion. I've been told that if I switch to a low top, my tendon issues will be over.

Is this right??

im 22 and ive been wearing mizuno low's since highschool. once in a while my ankle will be a little sore at the end of a double header but its nothing that hinders my ability to walk afterwards or work out the next day. have you tried wearing an ankle brace while you play?

Honestly, sounds like it's your age and achilles tendonitis.

I've always been a fan of low cleats, don't like the mid to high ones

i noticed that the pro's that wear low cleats tend to wear knee highs while the ones that wear mids usually have their pants all the way down/baggy

I was the same way! I only started buying the 3/4 tops because Ken Griffey Jr and other started wearing/promoting them back in the '80's!

It was the cool thing to wear, I guess

I'm back in low top Nike Air Conversions and seem to have fixed the problem.

I did something to my ankle about 2 months ago and I had some achillies tendinitis. It took me 2 weeks to realize my Nike Shox running sneakers were aggravating it. I started wearing some lower cut, Pumas with a lower heel and it has started to go away.

It still acts up a bit here and there, but combined with stretching and the change in sneakers it's been pretty good. I have gotten back into cardio at the gym, but I am still going to take it easy a bit longer before I try sprinting or running hard on it. Doctor said it should go away eventually with my age, I just need to take it easy until it heals...

Its your shoes and your age. Unfortunately you just get less flexible and more prone to this as time goes on.

Can't do anything about the latter, so get some low cut shoes
