Anyone try boot camp?
My wife refuses to train with me so she works out at her friend's gym. They have boot camps there and she prefers it more than my crossfit workout. Since she's friends with the owner, he asked her to tell me to try out a class. He knows I'm not leaving Mi Casa Gym but he's cool so he asked.
I went on Saturday to try it out and it was pretty neat. It's a little different than the CF workouts that I'm used to. For those that don't know about CF, they're usually shorter, extremely rigorous routines. An average "Workout of the Day" can last as short as a few minutes up to maybe 30 minutes not including other activities or add'l running. This particular boot camp is for 60 minutes although I've heard of 2-3 hour sessions.
I got there late but they did a warmup jog that I missed. The workout was lots of lunges holding dumbells. Doing punch routines with the dumbells inbetween runs (the trainer also practices some kickboxing). Ran outside with the dumbells. Lunges while doing shoulder exercises. Thrusters (squats then military), skull crushers, sumo dealift/high pulls, bench press all with dumbells. Tons of bicep curls. Finally situps with a military motion at the top while holding a bar and leg lifts while holding the bar with arms extended above the chest.
I wasn't really gassed since I'm used to the CF program where speed and sprinting are staples to the program. My muscles were very tired since I'm not used to a lot of concentrated motion like curls. I did this on Saturday and I'm still sore today.
I'm supposed to go tonight since he's doing a special one near my house and my wife will have already worked out. Probably will be more body weight since it's at a park instead of his gym. Looking forward to a different type of pain but I can't wait to get back to CF.

I teach a bootcamp and that's cool that you enjoyed it. I think it is a good "vacation" from the regular grind in the gym. Of course the CF is as well...just wish most gym rats could see the value of not always doing 3 sets of 10, blah, blah, blah
How has your progress been with the CF?

I've gone from 210 down to 189. Lots of compliments about weight loss. Dropped from 36-34 in pants. Much better shape. I'm up to 193 because I slacked off and on for the last 3 mos but we're getting back to the diet/routine.

Did the one last night. Unfortunately I was late so I worked out only 30 minutes. I wasn't tired at all breathing-wise. My muscles were taking a pounding from the lunges, jump squats, and frog side squats though. Then we did some punching but it was simple 1-2 combos with jab/cross, hooks, and uppercuts. My cardioboxing experience from last year kicked in and this was actually pretty easy for me even though I was hauling ass. We finished it off with muai thai knees to a partner, 100 each leg. I could've used more but I was starving when the class ended.
I'll probably go again tomorrow and Tuesday to help support the male population of the class since he's starting it up in our area. Already recruited 3 people from work. Next week I'm to bring gloves, jump rope, a mat, dumbells, and a resistance band.

Because I ain't enlisting to get in shape. And I take the name lightly. I know that armed forces can run miles and miles. These camps won't get me ready for that but at least I won't be a fatass neither.
