Id say a light breakfast, because you'll want your energy but if your workout is intense you dont want to get sick.

I agree with having something light. A little bit of protein and some quality carbs ( old-fashioned oatmeal ROCKS). You should always get some food as fast as you can after waking up; just keep it lighter and less greasy/fatty if you exercise early.

I'd recommend a light meal for both. There's a physiological benefit to having food in you for hitting the weights. Eating a little before cardio should keep you from feeling crappy.

It depends on what you are doing. If you are lifting, I'd get something liquid but nutricious like a shake before lifting. Also eat right after lifting. Usually something protein mixed with sugar. Yogurt is pretty good post workout snack. If you are running, then I hate running with food inside my stomach so I usually just drink water before running and then eat right after.

Depends on what makes you feel the best.

I prefer NOT to eat prior to working out. I will usually just have a protein shake to get something in my stomach and get some fuel going.

I don't feel good if I eat before I workout. But once in a while I'll have something light like an apple or banana first.

1st off I dont consider oatmeal light. That shit sits in my stomach, If I eat oatmeal is usually after my work out...but again different things for different folks.

As for eating after. You want to consume within 30 minutes of your workout. That is the best time that your body optimally transports everything good you eat (proteins, carbs, vitamins, etc) to where they need to go.

protien shakes are fine if your trying to lose weight. A simple protein shake could be water, ice, whey, and a few peices of fruit.

They don't have a magical property that'll make you lose weight, but they're an easy, fast, healthy way to get in extra protein. Takes me 3 minutes to mix and chug one for breakfast in the morning. They're pretty essential in helping me meet my diet goals.

Depends on the kind of protein and how it fits into your diet. If it's "weight gainer" or something else that's loaded with sugar, it's a bad idea. 2 scoops of whey is about 200 calories with 40+ grams of protein. That's a very "lean" way to get your protein.

They're just fine to have so long as they fit your dietary plans. You can't eat what you're eating now, then start drinking protein shakes and expect to lose weight. But it's more than possible to fit some shakes into your daily meal plan so long as you keep track of how many calories you're taking in.

Some people prefer to not have protein shakes when cutting - solid foods fill you up much better. But i couldn't live without my whey.

is there a site or something that gives an idea about how many calories everyday foods are? such as muffins, bagel, coffee, etc.
