abs diet?

Has anyone tried it? I was going to check out the book. Don't know if I'm going to follow the exact regimen, but might follow the philosophy of the 12 power foods and focus on those.

It looks good, but not much different from any other diet. The whole idea is to eat foods that are unprocessed, nutrient-rich, and balanced. Any sensible (non-fad) diet will have very similar advice. They're not really "12 foods"...but rather 12 groups of foods that should make up the bulk of your diet. I don't think it's really necessary to buy the book as long as you understand the reasoning behind the diet. If you're just starting to diet, exact calories don't matter as much as what you're eating. Switch from your current diet to these foods for a few weeks and I'm sure you'll have good results!
