"300" the movie: the training
hope this is motivating for everyone... (sorry mods, I know I posted this already in the "300" thread, but I figure I'd do it here too for the gym rats)

LOL. This is what high intensity short term cardio mixed with power training is. This is it. You bring a guy that lifts the world at the gym in strength training and a guy that does the above training for life, the latter guy will kick the former guy's ass any time, any place with any weapons or not. I love this stuff, I hope my gym had more equipment like this.
My favorite exercises from the above clip: 1. The jerk, mixed with deep squats (that will make you so powerful as a sports athlete) 2. The short sprints with elastic bands on the athlete's waste. |
wtf... anyone know a place that does that kind of training? I seriously want to do it.
|
The place they did it all @ was Gym Jones, I think its in Salt Lake
|
I'm sure there are a lot of gyms that do this type of training...the key is to find a trainer that uses this style. You'd probably just have to call around.
|
I have those "rings" I already do push up like that... but instead of prop-ing my legs up on a box... I use a swiss ball...
I'm thinking of buying one of those bungie's... http://www.performbetter.com/SearchR...tegoryID_E_174 now, I just gotta find a place to buy one of those big ass tires... LOL |
^ that's the same thing my buddy and i are talking about...getting a huge tractor tire and a kettle bell to start the training hahah...see you on the field is300eater :workout:

I'm really glad that I read this thread this morning. As I was driving through campus today, I drove past 4 guys in a parking lot who HAD a tractor tire...except that it was HUGE. It was probably twice the size of the one in the video and, just as I was passing by, one of the guys tried to do that jumping-over thing, caught his foot on the edge, and ate pavement HARD! I would have felt bad for him if I wasn't laughing so hard! WOW.
|
I think that's awesome... This way of training builds a fully functionnal, strong, fast and flexible body..
I might do that in my backyard this summer... something similar, homemade :tomato: |

I am surprised the gyms haven't jumped on this to make a Spartan training of some sort - repackaging the functional strength building they used for the actors. Maybe they need to bring back Agoge :what:
|
another similar type training... this guy pretty much does everything at a park... with minimal equipment

I believe it was in one of my Mens Health magazines where there was a quote from one of the guys being trained for this movie that went something like, "Knowing what you're about to make me go through feels like you personally killed my dog."
Or something to that affect. Talk about a killer workout. |
there are some places that have similar training routines. I heard about crossfit when I was looking into all that GymJones stuff last summer. http://www.crossfit.com/
|
A lot of this training comes from Track and Field training and Olympic Lifting training. Which passed on to American Football training (for example most football teams work with the tire). Not much of this is new.
|
this is awesome...I would love to get into this kind of workout...
|
yeah this is crossfit training. I'll be entering a "beginner's bootcamp" at a gym in DC for 4 weeks soon. Then I'll think about going through with classes. I did a mini-300 workout though at Bally's. Took 10 minutes to finish, but I never felt so exhausted and nauseous (and sweaty) in my life.

:chuckle: i was just browsing his site today out of boredom and read that page. This line cracked me up... good motivation...
Butler commented that my idea of a workout is to "go until you are actually in fear of your life and then go further. Then, you do more." |
Apparently you should be in fear of dying if your training is intense enough.
