Damn, that's well above my best average.

I have a hard time making it through a full tank of gas without some spirited driving. I generally keep an eye on my range and though it can approach 450-475 miles to the tank at times (including what's already been driven) it almost always finishes close to 400.

Are these averages based on a tank of gas?

Best gallon. I'd love to compare best tank, but I don't drive it often enough to get an accurate consistent reading.

Using the fuel computer's numbers - being right, wrong, whatever - when your MPG and trip meter match - what's the MPG at ?

Oh, I see...I was reading that wrong. I thought you only had 32 miles left to the tank, as opposed to that being the first 32 miles you've driven on the tank (or at least until you last reset trip A).

I'll have to try this to see if I can get close to your number. I think I can go one gallon without driving it like I stole it

Same problem here. On the way TO work, I can lightfoot it and get good MPG. On the way home....well, let's just say it's not usually in the 30s.

Just measure the downhill drive from lake tahoe, that will get a good gallon reading.

I think my best 70mile (round trip to work) is 31.8. Kentucky/southern Ohio both very hilly.

Best I ever to was 30mpg. Constant 60mph and that does include a few city miles. Real world for me is 28 mpg which is good considering I am stomping on th gas and reaching speeds of 100mph in spurts on long trips. On my trips to ohio from DC Im normally pushng 70 mph.

65-70mph and south of 2k RPM are the sweet spot. You push it past 2k RPM, and your mileage hits a wall quickly.

Great data! It's amazing how accurate the MID is in the mileage estimate. I have had 6 years of similar experience with my 2006. The other helpful data to track is average MPH per tank- you'll see a correlation with MPH and MPG.

Thanks. I was amazed that the car estimate was under the actual. I had a Civic Hybrid and after 4 years I can count on one hand how many times the car under estimated.

the mpg displayed on my MID has always been roughly 1/2 mile (or slightly more) less than the true figures ... and this has been consistent through over 80k miles of fill-ups. I have also touched 30+ mpg on the MID, but mostly like the OP ... soon after leaving the gas station.

I know we're going off topic of "best gallon" but I just did a 330 mile trip from L.A. to Central California and averaged 29.2 mpg. This includes about 20 miles in L.A. stop and go from last night prior to doing the trip, where I got 15mpg. There is also a 40 mile stretch of "The Grapevine" where you climb up to 4400 feet and back down, which doesn't do your mileage any favors. And because I had food in the car that couldn't get hot, I ran the A/C the entire trip. So I must say that 29.2 mpg over 330 miles, with A/C on, 20 miles of surface gridlock, and a climb to 4400 feet, isn't too shabby.

I've been able to do 29-30mpg on a tank with mixed driving. I can consistently (and that wasn't on a fresh tank) do highway stretches at 32-33 MPG - and this is with the 5 speed auto.

I also have the engine fully bolted up - and MPG being an indicator that things are running properly - it proves that at least under a light pedal, the mods don't hinder engine efficiency.

I'm actually averaging better MPG on my fully bolted 09 SH-AWD than I do on my 07 TL-S auto on the same trips with the same gas, same roads, same speeds.

I reset my trip B this morning on the highway to see what I got on my drive to work. Before the reset the trip had over 8k miles on it and the average was 21.1 mpg.

The 15 mile highway drive to work (cruise set at 72 mph), resulted in just under 25 mpg. That is about the peak I've been able to get since I bought the car. I know I could set the cruise slower but I'm already late enough to work, haha.

I took note of my mpg's right before I bought my SRI, to see if there was any improvement. I haven't noticed any and haven't really been able to get any better than @ 26 mpg. Oh well, I didn't buy this car for the fuel efficiency...though I did eliminate others from my decision based on fuel inefficiency.

Sorry - first Acura and relatively new to the forum: what does "fully bolted" mean?
Thanks!

I've been averaging 23 mpg for the life of the car since I bought it new. Work commute is 70/30 highway/city. Best tank I've seen is 26 mpg on a 100% highway commute. Car is completely stock.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I find that using Exxon gasoline gives the car an extra pep compared to Shell or Chevron. Almost as if the engine is a more willing partner to rev. Now, I understand that gasoline A and gasoline B all come from the same refinery and its the additives that are different, but there is a very perceptible difference that I see when using Exxon gasoline.

I had Mobil in my tank, which I think is the same as Exxon yeah? And didn't notice any appreciable difference. The 29mpg all highway tank I just pulled was off of a Shell fillup.

The only one I had terrible mileage on was Costco gas.

Funny, I've had my car for almost a year and I've never filled up at any station other than Exxon/Mobil, Chevron, or Shell. I've never really noticed any difference though.

Not sure why the difference is there in my TL guys, but there is a difference in mine. Just to check that I wasn't crazy, I tried Chevron/Shell after the Exxon fillup, went back to Exxon again and I could tell there was a difference. In the other family car, no perceptible difference.

You've got to avoid the E10 gas. Shell/Mobil/BP are typically not E10 unless your state mandates it. Costo/Kroger/Speedway typically are E10.

Can you prove this? It was my understanding that pretty much all gas in the US is E10 and that gas stations are not allowed to advertise if they do not have ethanol in their gas, although I did see a station in Clarksville, TN that advertised it on their sign out front. Also, there is a website that lists all non-ethanol gas stations by state, but the list is always very small.

As for my best mileage, I'm pulling this information as best as I can remember it, but it was late summer 2010, car had around 30,000 miles on it, was filled up with Shell 93octane, started in Chester, VA and drove to (almost) Clarksville, TN and wanted to get every last MPG out of the tank so I drove it all the way to just a couple miles shy of 500 and when I filled up, averaged 29.1MPG when the display was showing me 29.5MPG. What I was driving through was obviously hilly terrain where I tried to maintain 75MPH, but got behind (and drafted) many cars going 70 or less in the left lane until they got over. I want to say that 70MPH was my average.

I had the J-Pipe and intake on my TL at the time (don't think I had the 3rd cat delete just yet) and I have the 6-speed manual.

Made my return trip from Central Valley to Los Angeles. My first Chevron tank, filled up about 5 miles from the freeway. Was able to stay within 70-78mph the whole way, didn't draft anyone closely but if there was a van/SUV/pickup truck going same speed I'd pull up about 4-5 car lengths behind them (so not tailgaiting). Still had to go up/down the Grapevine, and there were three traffic spots where I slowed to 5mph but was back up to highway speed within 5-7 minutes for the longest, within 2 minutes for the shortest. Can't believe the mpg I got:

In my 2009 Base TL Tech, the best I've done for an average mpg on the tank was 35.5 from Southern Minnesota to Northern Kentucky. No A/C as it was cool outside.

I just made a road trip last weekend from Southern Minnesota to Milwaukee and back, and averaged 33 mpg for the tank. A/C on and off throughout the trip.

Needless to say, I've been very pleased with my gas mileages.

lji: those are painful numbers

I should point out that I too was using A/C off and on throughout the trip (mostly on, it was 95-99F most of the trip), windows rolled up.

As teh ric mentioned I too am happy about the mileage...for highway. Los Angeles city driving is brutal (averaging 18mpg). Maybe the mpg is rising (the manual says mileage may increase after your first few tanks), and maybe my car likes Chevron (and I swear I don't work for them). Will see what the future holds

Averaging 23.5 to 24 mpg per tank. 75% highway driving approximately.

I came from a 2004 WRX that was rate at 26mpg and regularly got 30-32mpg on the same commute. I was hoping for a repeat over-performance, but this car looks like it was accurately rated, unlike the Subaru.

well i pumped gas right off the fwy entrance. got on the fwy immediately and cruised it at 70mph..

first 10 miles, i got 39mpg, then it started to decline as i hit traffic.

Best gallon was 36.3; I did some hardcore eco driving.

Was going to start another thread but since this is relative to the discussion and hopefully Pseudo won't mind do you guys use any fuel additives (gumout, marval mystery oil, etc), what do you use, how often, why or why not?

I recently drove to from NYC to Bar Harbor, Maine otherwise known as "Baaa-haaba" to locals which is a 500 mile trip. Knowning that most gas stations up there don't carry big brand gasolines, some don't carry fuels above 87 and that close to none have 93 (if any, i didn't see one), I decided to try additives in the tank to hopefully boost gas mileage and purge my fuel lines/injectors/engine, etc of inferior gas buildups. MPG was alright, managed 23 both ways with all the luggages, hitch, bikes, passanger.
