What's good price for 2010 TL certified w/8k miles awd+tech?

I'm going to check it out tomorrow and I wanted some ideas on what would be a good price and a great price. I see people are getting new 11's with awd + tech for 38ish. Do you think I could get in the low 30s for the '10? Thanks!

I've seen 2010 Type SH AT fully loaded last year going for $34.5k used with ~8k miles when I was shopping for my TL.

Heres what you should pay .......

2010 TLs' are about 30% depreciated now.
10% for driving off of the lot.
And 20% of for being 2 steps behind the 2012 TL.
So say MSRP was 43K. You should be able to get a used 2010 for around 30K plus tax.
Each year the car will depreciate 10%.
A lot of 2010 TL owners here will bash my post but you should not consider paying more than 31K for the 2010 TL.

It's going to depend a lot on the condition of the car and where you live.

The only available, accurate way to determine the market range is to check the pricing guides such as Edmunds.com, KBB, etc. you might also check on AutoTrader to determine what's on the market in your area right now the asking prices.

Using an arbitrary, straight line figure (20%-10%, etc.) is no better than a guess. The only accurate source is what people in the market are selling for and buying for.

Good luck with the hunt.

Your numbers are a little off... I just traded in my 2010 SH-AWD with 31,600 miles for $31,000.

Here is the listing from the dealer:
http://www.piazzaacuraofardmore.com/...f714017a1e.htm

Selling for $33,994. It appears they put new tires on the car. Nothing else should have been needed.

This is the reason why I went with a 2011. I was getting prices between $33K - $37K for a 2010 AWD/Tech(low mileage). I was able to get a new 2011 AWD/Tech for $36K with all the end of model year discounts they are giving.

My estimate of 31K is not off. If the asking price is $33994 then it can be easily negotiated down to 31K or even lower.
Also why did the car need new tires after just 8k miles?

You are not reading what I wrote. I traded MY 2010 to a dealer for $31000 2 week ago... The car HAS 31,600 miles on it. You will not be able to negotiate down to 31k because thats what they paid me for the car AND they put new tires on it.

you cant use the trade in number, that number is relative to what you paid for your new car...ie, they can either over pay or under pay you for your trade based on what they put down on paper that you paid for their car....

you cant base what someone else is going to pay for a used car on what the dealer gave for yours in trade...

Typically I would agree but I got a 2012 SH-AWD Advance for $42,500... They only have so much margin.

you just proved my point...the numbers are relative...ie, if they gave you 31k for your car and charged you 42500 for thiers, the difference is 11.5...they could have written the deal up to show whatever they wanted, for instance, they could have charged you msrp 45000 for thiers and gave you 33500 for yours...and the difference is still 11.5...so what they gave you for your trade means just about nothing....

here is a good example of what i am talking about...if you were to try to sell your car to the dealer without buying a car from them, the price they gave you for your trade in would have been completely different...they can hide loss in the deal and make you feel good about it...

This is starting to become off-topic but I would just like to clarify. Dealers were contacted about me looking for a 2012 SH-AWD Advance it was stated that no car was being traded. Worked with all the dealers to find the best price. At the point I reached $42,500 (msrp 45,085) which no dealer was able to go low then. At that point I took my trade to each dealer which then gave me low ball offers for my car like 28k-29k. Edmunds true market value for my car with the miles in the condition it is just over $31,000. Eventually after about 2 weeks there were 2 dealers that were willing to do the deal. I do understand what you are saying the numbers are relative. But I'm giving you the full picture. We know the price I got on the new car is VERY good. I have yet to hear a better price from anyone on these forums for a 2012 SH-AWD Advance. It's also safe to say that my trade in price was very good based on new 2011 SH-AWD Tech's going for 37k.

I'm sure the dealer still made some money but they listed my old 2010 for $33,994. Maybe someone could get them down to $30,000 but I really don't believe that they made $4,000 off me and we have to factor in the new rubber they put on the car... I don't know... My original point was just a 2010 with 8k miles in mint condition will be rough to find for 30k and I still think this is true.

Sometimes dealers will take a loss as opposed to letting the car sit on the lot for extended times. 31K is the best price for that car. Unless some sucker buys it for 33K. Also why did the car need new tires at 33K? My first set of stock tires were good till 105k miles.
At the year end the 2012 TLs AWD Advance should be selling for around 37K brand new. The 2010 TL used will be worth less than 25K then. So they know they got to sell it soon.

i dont know what your driving, but my last tl, 2007 type s had the same tires, and it only got 35k miles on them, and i dont expect the sh awd tires to last any longer then that...

and trust me, the dealer is never taking a loss...

i seriously doubt you will be getting a 2012 awd advance for 37k anytime this year...maybe after the 2013 comes out, but not this year...

I'm always curious on what we as owners write about the price and how much we paid. No business is in business to lose money, so you can bet that in the end the dealership made money on your purchase and will make money when they sell your trade or at least the net of the entire sale/trade/resell transaction. A good price for any car is based on it's current fair value and also how much you want it.

I am not an aggressive driver so my first set of stock tires lasted 105K miles on my 99 TL.
35K for any set of tires is very much laughable ... it doesn't matter even if the car is AWD and can do somersaults.

i am not an agressive driver either, pretty much any car with 300hp is going to chew up the tires...

105k is pretty amazing. However do drive fairly aggressively and the warranty rating from Michelin on the OEM tires is 50k miles. If i had kept the car I would have replaced them in about another 10k which would have put me at about 42k miles on the tires. It also comes down to safety I drive 100+ miles a day for work. I need to know the tires can handle light snow/rain at highway speeds. Obviously the driving you do is way different than mine considering you got 105k.

I find your 105k laughable because I don't know a single person that has ever had tires much more than 10k past the manufacturers tread life warranty. Regardless good for you!

Nice! 105k from tires is ridiculous!!!

The only thing I would add is that tires tend to break down with exposure to the elements and the stress of carrying 700-1000 lbs each at high speeds and temperature extremes. Even if you have tread remaining on 5-6 year old tires, you run the risk of sidewall weakness/cracking, possibly leading to ruptures. Since you've got 200k+ on your car in the last 12 years, I'm guessing you're turning tires over at least every 6 years, so its probably all good. Just something for the folks that put 5000mi/year on their weekend drivers to keep in mind...

I somewhat tend to agree with this post, particularly in regard to the 2010 now being 2 years behind the latest model available. However, only 8K miles is going to push this way toward the high side, easily $34 (asking price). Brand new 2012 w/AWD and Tech is going to fetch 44'ish. The thing you may have going for you in negotiations is "the ugly beak" which has been heavily criticized in the auto mags as well as by potential buyers. i.e., look at the 2012's..... if "the beak" was so popular, why did they change it? Even if you personally like the "Disney Car" appearance of the front end, don't let on. Instead use it's appearance (and bad press) against it as a lever in your negotiations. Give them your best offer and walk away, tell them to give you a call when they're serious about selling it. Be prepared to wait a couple of weeks, but they'll call. I certainly wouldn't go a penny above $33 because for not a hellouvalot more you could be driving a brand-spanking-new one with a full warranty. Give up AWD and a brand new 2012 (w/Tech) could be yours for $39,500.

105k is indeed ridiculous and not everyone gets it. Just look at all the jack rabbit starts at traffic lights. No wonder people are in denial about their tires' tread life. So cool to be human isn't it?
