Cool What should I do?

This is the situation. I am in a lease with a pretty good monthly payment but my insurance is killing me. The new silver moon color came out finally and its making me crazy.

Maybe i need some sense knocked in to me.

Financials.
Current Lease
Acura TL Tech 2012 Grey
269.00 monthly payment
30940.63 pay off
500.00 a month insurance

Financials
New thought
Acura TL Tech Sexy Silver Moon
35600.00
679.00 monthly @ 1.9% for 60 months
420.00 a month insurance - Full coverage

I am not sure if I should go for it being that it's just to basically change the color.

Its a long story why i got into a lease in the first place but I am here and i can't turn back. It did take a while for me to like the grey color and I think its elegant, specially at night. But the Silver color drives me crazy. There is another member here that has that silver moon color and his car looks so good. WOW.

Any thoughts out there? Am I suffering from the buying bug?

damn bro. You're getting ass raped on the insurance. I have 9 points on my license and I dont even pay nearly as much as you in either scenarios. I say hang in there. You have a great car. However, if you were looking to get into an AWD, then i'd say go for it. Besides whats this silver moon? I thought the silver was called forged silver.

your nuts..having said that:

how are you going to get out of your current lease?
why the hell is your insurance $500/month??
why do you think your insurance will go down o $420/month once you trade cars?

Better question:
How does going from a $769 total monthly payout to a $1099 monthly payout make sense when the monthly insurance is killing you?

I'm with everybody else, how did your insurance get so high?

Blue silver color bery good. You pick! I have 11 points and i am with geico. I have full coverage. Who is your insurance agent?

Omaralt - The dealer buys out my car.

honestly; even in your current situation i cant imagine paying $769/month just in car payments and insurance (now add all the extra expenses; gas, maintenance, modding, etc). and now you want to take it to $1100/month?? come on dude, sell your car and take public transport; you do live in NYC

Or you can try to find cheaper insurance, get a longer term on the new car, maybe 72-82 months for a lower payment, and work on fixing your driving record. Just my

Omaralt - I do live in NY. My total car payment monthly is pretty crazy. I have not modded the car a lot and I am already done modding it.

I like to drive a lot and if I sell my car it would leave me with nothing.

i am getting off the cloud thank you guys.

dude, this kind of thinking is what f*cked up this country... seriously, instead of telling him to get into a cheaper car you want him to simply finance it for 6-7 yrs?? we always have to get what we desire even if it makes no financial sense? at this point you already have the car; so try to find cheaper insurance. please dont think about making an even bigger mistake by buying another new car..

I think the high insurance premium is likely due to the fact that he's leasing the vehicle. Secondly, skytech lives in sthe econd worst areas to insure a car in Queens...Brooklyn being #1. I'm insured with Statefarm - full coverage for $1900 for the six months. I know it's expensive, but thats what I get for having 9 points on my license. Geico wanted 4k for 6 months.

Hey, I agree with you, but I did not tell him to get a cheaper car because I thought he was going to say something like...why the f@#$ would I want a cheaper car!. But that was my initial thought, see, my opinion was based on A. his current lease and B. the new car he really wants, if he can't afford it then she shouldn’t buy it. The reason I said longer term was because, he can buy the car at that term, and pay more on it than his payment, then if he can't afford to pay more one month, he doesn't have to.

the question is.. why are you still insured after soo many points? lol.. here in cali, you get more than 5 points, your license is suspended till points go down to 5.

sorry to say bud, but if you cared about insurance prices, maybe the TL is not suited for you at the moment due to your financial problems.

I have no DUI's. Its all stupid shit like speeding or lane changing without signaling and i think i have like one moving violation.

I do want to go from a lease to a finance.

Maybe i should just wait till the lease matures a little more and buy a 2013 or 2014 TL when the time comes.

Who knows maybe the car would be even sexier and the silver might change again.

My biggest problem right now is my ensurance.

Someone meationed that they have state farm. Who was that? Is it via a broker or straight to the company?

well.. first of all, how old are you? still under 25?

also do you have your name on the lease or someone else signed it for you?

there are little tricks and loop holes around insurance that you can get away with. most people dont know about it and just end up throwing money away on shit they dont need.

have you tried shopping around for insurance? geico is very inexpensive if you have a clean record. i'm surprised your still with them because i've heard of them kicking people out after 6 points. either way; spend a few hours online (stay away from the porn) and get estimates from all the major companies. you really need to get that insurance premium under control

I am 31 and i signed the lease.

If i lower my insurance coverage do i break my lease? Can they repo my car for that?

I have shopped around. The story is that around my way my last car was targeted and vandelized. So my insurance was like you are out buddy. So i had to change address just to get coverage.

When they were going to kick me out i went on the hunt for insurance but no one wanted to give me insurance because i have 11 points.

hmm.. your in a pickle buddy.

i mean god damn 11 points?

im sure under your lease contract, there is a certain amount of coverage that you have to get in order to qualify for the lease. i believe for acura is 100k/300k. If you owned that car, you can lower it to 30k/60k which will lower your cost much more, but not in this situation. You are stuck with that, if you break it, acura will try to contact you to make sure you are getting the right coverage. Keep in mind that you dont own the lease car, acura still does.

and if you lower the coverage and if you get into an accident, you will have a really big issue with insurance and acura. probably go into a lawsuit.

for me, im 23 have 3 points on driving record and paying full coverage 1200 a year with 100k/300k coverage.

You do know that with certain insurance companys you dont have to have your name on the insurance to drive the car right?

Example, my old car which was a gsr btw that was fully paid for. i drove that for almost 2 years without my name on the insurance. i had full coverage on it paying only 400 a year. Reason why? my name was not on the car and insurance was under my dads name, but according to AAA policy, anyone that does not live in that address that is listed with insurance can drive the car and get a 1 time coverage. I got into an accident with that GSR and i was fully covered. All the insurance asked me to do was to add my name on it after the 1 time coverage. But after that accident, i switched to another insurance company that offered the same policy and did it all over again. As you already know, young drivers are never cheap. this is how i figured my way out of paying 800+ for half a year with 1 way.

My suggestion to you, if you are really leaning towards getting that Silver moon TL, dont get it under your name. Insurance company will always ask for whoever leased/financed that car, will automatically have to be put on the insurance. If you get it under your father/mother (or anyone that is older and has lots of years of driving experience and clean record) name and with the right insurance company, you are able to get away with only paying about 100 a month for insurance.

^ I agree. OP try taking a driver improvement course. That should definitely knock some points off, if not all off your record. I've taken the online course multiple times. 3x for me to keep the points off (first speeding ticket was at 16: $305.50- 80 in a 55) and for others also. I havent had a speeding ticket in a few years. But I know in florida you can take the improvement course(s) once a yr, but no more than 5x in a lifetime if that makes sense. But do remember, i believe points fall off your record every 3 yrs from the infraction date, well in my state it does. Just keep that in mind and read up on NY's driving laws.

I do know in my state they'll suspend your liscense if you rack up to many points in a certain amount of time. Like 18 pts in an 18 month period or 12 pts/12 mo period, but it's not always correlating, like 8 points in 3 mo period. It's all in my nephews handbook.

Im the one with state farm. It's through an agent in Brooklyn. You wouldnt be able to lower your premium because leased vehicle require a higher comp. I suggest the following:
Switch to state farm. They only go back three year on your driving records whereas geico goes back five to seven years.
Take the defensive driving course online.
Lie and tell the agent that you r married. For some reason you're considered a safer driver if you're married.

Let's tone down the racist and derogatory comments.

We're all adults here, there's no need for those kinds of comments.

Thanks.

Was the same person responsible for the beak desicion? Maybe.
They should do away with that person.

to be truthfully honest, it might be a bad idea to switch considering that you are already borderline on not even qualifying for insurance.

500 a month is a hit on your wallet, its like another car payment..

maybe you need to reconsider not driving for a bit to save some money.. i know i would, 500 is a lot to save every month..

ya i think mr. skytech has ed zachary disease..

A woman was very distraught at the fact that she had not had a date or any sex in quite some time.

She was afraid she might have something wrong with her, so she decided to seek the medical expertise of a sex therapist. Her doctor recommended that she see Dr. Chang, the well-known Chinese sex therapist, so she went to see him.

Upon entering the examination room, Dr. Chang said, "OK, take off all you crose." The woman did as she was told. "Now, get down and craw reery, reery fass to odder side of room." Again, the woman did as she was instructed. Dr. Chang then said, "OK, now craw reery, reery fass back to me." So she did.

Dr. Chang shook his head slowly and said, "Your probrem vewy bad. You haf Ed Zachary Disease. Worse case I ever see. Dat why you not haf sex or dates."

Worried, the woman asked anxiously, "Oh my God, Dr. Chang, what is Ed Zachary Disease?"

Dr. Chang looked the woman in the eye and replied, "Ed Zachary Disease is when your face rook Ed Zachary rike your ass."

Call me judgmental but...Two potential problems with this. One, you just shifted the problem to your parents, whose rates probably went up after YOUR accident. Two, most insurers require you to specify the PRIMARY driver. Of course you can lie. Again, you have shifted the cost from yourself to other insured drivers, who make up for the premium you should have paid for your increased risk.

i see that you said MOST Insurers, well AAA is not one of them.. infact All-State has the same policy as AAA.

Again, i refer to the accident forgiveness policy.

Who said it was a lie, im going according to policy.. taking advantage of what they offer. Im not trying to cheat the system, its called "working the system"

first of all, accidents are rated against the driver, not the person that is listed on the policy. As i said before, after 1 accident, you are required to put your name on the insurance. Secondly, i never stated that i was at fault for accident, and who said i was not paying the cost? i am merely using the age factor and driving experience that my parents have to lower the cost.

Trust me, i have had no issues with this. With that said, it has been working for me.. i saved thousands of dollars each year by doing it this way.

Good point re accident forgiveness.

As you know, not all companies offer this, and you usually have to be a long-term customer with good driving record to qualify. And it usually only covers the first accident. After that, any future accident will affect the policy-holder's rate. Some insurers hold ALL claims against the policy-holder's rates, not just the ones where he/she is at fault.
