Trade SH-AWD for Golf R
An opportunity has come up where a Golf R recently was taken on a trade. Its slightly used (~10k miles).
I'm contemplating trading the TL for it. I know they are slightly different cars, but the R is fun to drive, although not as luxurious as the TL.
Anyone can share opinions, thoughts?

This is funny. The Golf R was near the top of the list last spring when I purchased. The problem was the dealer didn't want to move much on price, and I got the TL for maybe $2k more.
I liked the Golf R, except the tiny nav screen. The navi is also not as good as ours. It reroutes a lot, and two of my friends who have new gti's hate the navi compared to any other one they've used. The headlights are bixenon which is better than ours, but the cutoff and distance isn't as good. The headlights also swivel when you turn.
Performance is decent, and it's definitely louder than the TL. In the end, the TL is more refined and can still give you the fun you want in the corners.
If you want to mod the car, the Golf R is the better platform.
It comes down to personal preference. The Golf has good rear legroom for it's size. Slightly more than the A4. I've sat in the back of my friends Golf for 3 hours and had no issues, and I'm 6'2". There is definitely more cargo room and flexibility with the hatch.
If you plan to keep it for the long haul make sure to price out a good warranty. VW/Audi do have their electrical gremlins. My friend has issues with his alerting him that bulbs are out, when they are not.
Overall it's a nice car and a solid daily driver.

+1 on what Pot said, I don't know about german cars and there reliability vs. Japanese - Honda, Toyota, Acura, Lexus.
I guess I have heard too many stories of many trips to dealers when it comes to MB & BMW. VW not AS much?

If it was me, I would keep the TL and also buy the Golf R.
The Golf R would be for the thrill-of-a-lifetime fun driving, and the trust-worthy TL would be for the days when the Golf R breaks down and/or getting fix in the shop.

The Golf R would be a nightmare as a daily, used VWs/Audis just give me a warm happy feeling inside. If you can afford the repairs and won't be too affected by downtime while its in the shop, I have heard they are fun cars. At that rate though I would keep the Acura and buy an older WRX/STI for a fun car.

There was a former 4G TL owner who traded their TL for a Golf (R?) b/c he wanted to haul his bike inside the vehicle.
I can't remember his AZ name, but hopefully he can chime in on his thoughts.

I don't remember the article nor can I quote exactly what it said, but from what I remember reading the US spec golf R is a disappointment compared to the Euro spec. Something about the speed limiter or VSA. The article ended stating a lot of owners of the golf R were complaining to corporate about it.

I think some folks around here have a bad case of "New Car Fever."
Sometimes you need to step back and take a look at what you've got. Cars are like women. After you've riden around on them for a couple of years, you start to get bored. You start wondering what it would be like to hold another one in your hands, smell the seats, or put your little stick in the hole and crank it over. But in the end one car is the same as another, the same as a new women becomes just like any other women in your life (both get old and leak a little bit of fluid).
My advice is stick with what you picked out to begin with and find a way to be happy. Looking for a new model, be it a car or a women, will just end up costing you a shit-ton of money.

Joking/belittling/shit talking aside...Mr Marco is correct.
If you start getting bored, do some mods. Acura seems to be a trouble free car and very well built. I'm very happy with mine.
I owned a 07 E350...constant electrical problems. I'll stick with Japanese.

What's your motivation for the R and what is it that you don't like about your TL?

ive driven vw all my life (hence my screen name lol). definitely not junk cars but less reliable. i recently sold my mk6 gti to get my tl. as far as which car is better, it really depends what you're looking for. tl is luxury and comfort. golf r is sporty and very fun to drive. both cars are sweet! cant go wrong either one. im considering picking up a used mk6 golf r down the line but my only gripe is no dsg. im hoping to see a dsg mk7 golf r
imo i would have to say the acceleration is night and day between the two. the golf r is very quick...

you are comparing a little sports car to a 4000lb family sedan.. come on.. smh..
if you are not big on reliability, then go for the euro's they are great for performance.. but for comfort and reliability.. you go with the Japanese cars.
