Is it Totaled?

Hey!

I got hit last Friday by a Dodge Durango. My poor Acura TL 2013 Elite is waiting for an evaluation. FWIW, it has 44k KM or 27500 miles.

Does it look totaled to you?

Sorry for the pic quality . That's only one I have. I hit a stop sign as well so probably some damaged under the car aside from the wheel.

Yeah, with the deployed airbags and the suspension damage in addition to the body damage, I would say they're probably going to total it out.

Agreed. Broken rear suspension, airbags, rear quarter panel. I'd be very surprised if not a total loss. Sorry. Hope everyone was OK.

It depends on the money I get out of it if it's totaled . The car value is less than the loan.

Anyways, I'm staying in the Honda/Acura family; probably a TLX or RDX.

The 1.5T Accord will be released the 3rd week of October and the 2.0T version will be available around November 20th from what I read.

Just grab another TL. The newest one's four years old, at this time. I'm glad to see that she did her job, and prevented you from being injured. Death rate, in these cars, is incredibly low, last time I checked. In other words, if you have a dumb-ass kid, like I do, it's a good car, safety-wise, to start them out on. Now, performance-wise, it's too GD fast, IMO.

Anyway, not to get off on a tangent, I'm sorry for your loss; and yes, do tell us what happens!

I'm always caught offguard when threads like these come up, WIth that amount of damage, would you NOT want it to be totaled? Would you be comfortable driving that thing on the road with your family in tow? For me, if a collision is hard enough for airbags to deploy, I'm looking at another car.

I am sure he'd want it to be totaled but is asking for our opinions. It's not his call but the insurance company's. My guess is he's still waiting on the decision.

OP - Glad you and your kid are okay.

I'd ask the adjuster to total it out if they somehow decided not to

Yeah I want it to be totaled of course. I really wanted your point of view considering the damage. No way i'll feel comfortable driving it again knowing how damaged it was.

I'm waiting for the insurance company on the subject. The are very slow considering that the accident took place last friday and the first call I got was yesterday....

You shouldn’t settle for a penny less than the car is worth on KBB (or the loan value if that’s more). My mother was involved in an accident about 7 months ago in her 4 year old CRV, it was also totaled out. She too was uninjured, a testament to side air bags and govt crash tests pushing car companies to be better. The original offer from NYCM was $3000 less than KBB trade in value on her car, which was in perfect condition and had just under 15,000 miles on it (she doesn’t drive much). My mother was t boned when another driver ran a stop sign, so fault wasn’t an issue. We were lucky that the police officer did his job and wrote an excellent accident report and also issued the other driver a citation. In any case, I learned that in NYS at least, a consumer is able to file a complaint against an insurance company if they “lowball” an insured on both the $$$$ value of the damage to the car AND what physical injuries are worth (yes, there’s actually a table of some kind with a settlement range for specific injuries). In any case, armed with this information, I made an appointment with the adjuster and told him we would settle for KBB private party value in excellent condition. He countered a couple times, but I already had his written estimate that by any standard was a lowballl offer. We ended up agreeing to the KBB amount I had brought to the table. I don’t know the laws in Canada, but I’d say do your research and come armed with as much information as you can regarding the value of your TL.

I am impressed with how your car held up and that you were uninjured. My kids will be taking my TL over and it is reassuring to see those safety systems and the structural designs come together to protect occupants. That said, why not look for another TL? They’re great cars that will slowly become extinct. The TLX, while targeted for a younger demographic than I fit, simply isn’t a viable replacement. The RLX, meh. Can’t see myself shelling out $55,000 plus for one of those. Glad you’re ok!! Good luck!!!

Local dealer here in Tampa tacked on an extra 20k to the MSRP of a Type R. Ya, no thanks.

Well maybe most places. Our local Honda dealership doesn't subscribe to the whole markup mind set; my bet is one can get a CTR from them for at or below sticker.
