TL vs TLX

Past weekend, took my 4G to the dealer for state inspection, I got the 17 TLX shawd for a loaner for a full day and overnight. this is the second time I drove tlx shawd, I hop into the car with the expectation.
But I felt bored after 1 hour driving with it. I even felt the mazda 3 2.5L is amazing to drive over TLX shawd. tlx is too soft.

I agree, but I may even go a little past $50K for a fully loaded SH-AWD Sport Hybrid, but not past $55K.. Because when I reach a certain dollar amount it makes me look at what else is out there at the price point... I recently saw an RLX with rims that were very similar to the 2009-2011 TL SH rims. They were probably 19's but not larger than 20's and it looked awesome. I know they weren't, but they could have passed for OEM, they were very tastefully done. .

The RLX SH-SH is a hell of a car. With some nicer wheels, it's even nicer. With some hunting, you can find some decent prices on them.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but Acura dropped the double wishbone suspension (front) for the TLX. I'd read that the TLX is using MacPherson struts up front, and I find that very disappointing. It looks like the TSX and the TL both had double wishbone front suspensions, before they were dropped, and replaced by the TLX.
Two years ago, when shopping for a four door sedan, I had a chance to compare the TLX to the 4G TL (4G that I bought had 5k on it, and was a CPO). The TLX was far, and I mean far, quieter than the TL, and it had a very punchy 3.5, that arguably is faster than my SH-AWD, automatic, but it lacked the appeal of the 4G. Honestly, the TLX, FWD V6, felt a lot faster than my TL - but that's another story. Honestly, I feel that it felt bland, and not committed to anything but being a grocery getter. Nice car, but boring. Plus, for some reason, passenger-side, front, it just seemed like the dash took up a lot more of the seating area. Why? I have no freaking clue!
Also, Acura had just come out with the new nine-speed transmission. The 4G TL had a wonderful six-speed auto, that had been around for a bit. There was no way in hell I was going to buy that nine-speed, for its first year of production. I thought that that transmission was likely to be a headache, until they worked the bugs out, if they could work the bugs out. Plus, I did not want a push-button gear selector.
Also, the 4G has that wonderful, although some of you will disagree with me, 3.7, and the TLX has the 3.5. I know that the 3.5 is a DI motor, but that didn't really matter to me.
Although the TLX is nice, I feel that the Honda Accord represents a better value.
When I analyzed everything, I really didn't want to buy the TLX, so I bought a slightly used TL.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
Geez, I hope I didn't make any typos, or, well, whatever.

^ my thoughts exactly.
The 4G TL SHAWD feels more "engaging", the TLX feels more disconnected from the driver. Yes, the TLX is quieter but feels like it gives you a false sense of luxury. Also the seats... can't get over the fact that the much cheaper Accord coupe has more sporty seats. Hope the 2018 TLX mid-life update is more than just a grill.
PS. Its funny though that the four or five samples of the TLX GT race car have double wishbone suspension and the commercially available TLX doesn't !!!

Ive been following this thread along and am in the same camp as most on the TL vs TLX debate. The interesting thing is that most 4th gen TL owners don't see the TLX as a viable replacement because of its smaller size and I assume, because our TLs have to pull double duty as a family hauler on occasion. I think where Acura is missing the mark completely (just look at the horrific sales numbers) is with the RLX. A younger me would probably prefer the smaller, more tossable AWD TLX. The "now" version of me wants a car that can take the kids someplace in reasonable comfort and also be fun to drive on the back roads and tackle winters near Buffalo NY. The 4th gen fits that bill perfectly. I hope Acura is able to keep the TLX and also see there is a major void in their line up. Most of us don't want the RLX, we want a family version of the sportier TLX. A slightly larger RLX with a motor Honda can be proud of is what I'd love to see. Forget the electric motors and all of that extra nonsense. Build a world class, naturally aspired 4 liter motor and upgrade the SH-AWD system to handle 375ish HP. That's the Acura I'd buy. Until then, I'll keep enjoying my TL. I hope Acura has a competitive car in time for my next purchase.

Got a canned email from local dealer about end of model year deals on TLXs. Have a SHAWD Tech for $33,500 and that is not enough for me to trade in my 57,000 mile TL.

I guess that's my point. Why trade in my paid off car that will likely last me another 5 years with my driving habits for a car that does little to motivate me.
If anyone is interested it is Acura of Orange Park outside of Jacksonville:
For what its worth, that is about the price I picked up my 2011 SHAWD TL Tech about 6 years ago (when the 12s were showing up on the lot).

Are these service loaners? If they're brand new, that is an amazing price.

I am just picturing myself walking into a Canadian dealership and asking them for a $10k US discount... and they'll laugh and laugh and laugh LOL LOL You guys in the US are way too lucky to have deals like this one. Even though hesitant towards the TLX, well a $10k (more like $13.3k Canadian) perhaps would change my mind.

I agree wouldn't trade my 40,000 mile 2014 SH-AWD for one either. I am hoping that by time I am ready to get rid of mine in about 3 or 4 years Acura has got their act together and has a sporty TLX with much better looks and power available.

I know the 2016 American Spec V6 Touring non comes with Paddle shifters. And the Canadian i4 Touring CVT does not come with paddle shifters. The Canadian I4 Touring stop making 6-Speed in 2016.

I have been saying this same thing on AZ since I first saw the TLX in person several years ago. In all fairness to the TLX, it did feel more refined than the 4G but on the other hand it felt like it was lacking something.. While there was nothing wrong with the TSX, as we all know it was a model below the TL.
It seems to me that Acura catered more to the TSX buyer when designing the TLX than they did to to the 4G buyer. IMO I honestly feel that Acura built the TLX hoping that the TSX owner would love the upgraded feel without ever considering the 4G TL owner.. Think about it, for the most part, on the road the average person cannot tell the difference between a $32,000 I-4 TLX (TSX), and a $45,000 V6 SHAWD (4G TL)..
IMO I think the RLX should have been the 5G TL, and if priced like a TL they would have sold a lot of them. I don't think the RLX gets the credit it deserves partially due to it's price point. Then Acura could of marketed the TLX as the new TSX while keeping the TSX name, which has/had a following..
I understand that Acura combined the TSX and TL into one model most likely to cut costs. But I just couldn't imagine Lexus combining the IS and GS into one model.

I agree Acura probably felt the 4G was a mistake and I think it's shame that Acura didn't realize that the only issue with the 4G was the "beak" and not the car itself. Because the content, features and feel of the 4G was great. I bought a 2011 6 years so I never had an issue with the "beak". I happen to like it's aggressive look and road presence, but that's one mans opinion and I can certainly understand that some people feel the beak is ugly, after-all everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I have always wondered how the 4G TL would have be received if it would have been released in 2009 with the front end styling of the 2012+. My guess is there would have been a lot less complaining about how ugly it was, and people would have focused on what a great vehicle the 4G was instead.. We'll never know...

i haven't been following this thread but stumbled upon it just now, and the thing that jumps out at me is the number of posters who have driven tlx loaner vehicles "while having their 4G TL in for warranty service" for days or weeks at a time. what kind of warranty work is requiring these multiple-night sleep overs? are these all unrelated, isolated incidences, or is there some major underlying mechanical flaw or recall for the 4G? does the 4G have the Takata airbags? glass transmission? problem with the awd system? i had a fwd 2012 for 5 years and never had a single issue (other than battery replaced under warranty)

My experiences have all been for scheduled service, with one exception, which is when I had the airbag recall taken care of while my car was in for an oil change. I'd expect most of the others are similar.

Air bag replacement for me. Had a Cadillac for the first month and the TLX 3.5 AWD for the last week to 10 days before the part arrived. My Acura dealer offers free loaners for any service if you make an appointment and request one. They have MDXs, TLXs, and ILXs. My TL has been flawless otherwise. If your TL is 5 years old (a 2012), my understanding is you've got a Takata airbag. Parts are more readily available now for the recall work, and wait times aren't as long for the DS airbag. Next up with be the inflators for the PS and possibly side airbags. But yes, people get loaners all the time while having their car serviced. At that time, I had 2 almost new Acura products and they treated me like gold. No complaints.

I had the transmission update and airbag recall done at the same time. Dropped it off after work and took the rental because I had to be back at work the next day. I got out of work too late the next day and could not get to the dealership in time. This was either a friday or saturday at this point and they were not open the next day.
