TL Takata Airbag Recall

No problem, I'm here to help any way I can...sounds like you got a call from Pohanka's call center...basically a bunch of people who have little to no automobile knowledge and simply answer phones and relay messages. It pains me to say that, they are my co-workers after all but in all honesty, they know very little about anything in the auto business. I would definitely get in touch with your service advisor to set up a time to bring your car by. Hopefully you are working with either Jerry Soriano or Steve Phillips...they know what they're doing over there...cant say the same for anyone else as a lot has changed since I left that dealership. If you need any other advice or help, let me know. I will do all I can. Good luck!

Pohanka has always taken care of me - when I was in that lemon ILX Hybrid (which they helped me out tremendously on with their extended hours, tons of loaner cars, and genuinely trying to rectify the issue, unlike the CT dealerships that blew me off because I didn't buy from them) to scheduled maintenance on my TL, to only ripping off my friend a little bit on a Lexus that he purchased over the weekend (my buddy has the negotiating skills of a chihuahua, you could probably convince him to buy an extended warranty for a box of tissues, and they finalized the paperwork without me). Their regular maintenance is a bit on the high side (at least compared to dealerships in the northeast or the south), but I'd rather pay $10 extra for an oil change and get my car serviced with them.

Just called Prime Acura in MA and they still don't know when they will get the parts in,

Just to chime in here...my 2011 TL had the Takata recall performed in June. I brought the car to my dealership in April and was given a brand new TLX as a loaner until the part arrived. I assume that I was probably one of the first to have the service done since I had one of their loaner vehicles!

I had my rental for 60 days which in light of how long some of you are waiting, doesn't seem too bad. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop with the passenger side airbags but will continue to drive my car solo or with people in the backseat in the meantime.

I'm about to hit the 90 day mark on my rental(s), ~10500 miles driven so far between the two rental cars. I've taken 2 major road trips (~4800 miles and ~3300 miles) plus 40 miles/day for work commute. I just traded out the 2nd one today for a 3rd rental due to the oil change light coming on. The 3rd one has 18% oil life so I imagine I will be trading that one in once again later this month for a 4th rental.
I called the dealer two weeks ago and they had no idea, said it could be a few weeks or a few months. I'm getting pretty tired of driving Camry's and Malibu's though, however the mileage savings on the TL is pretty significant.

Finally I got a call from my service advisor yesterday. So off the tow truck it went this morning. I've just picked it up in the afternoon. Gotta say it feels so good getting back into the car after 4 months.
Anybody agree the 4G TL design still looks fresh?

I called my dealer and they are willing to give me another rental car. I am fighting with them to give me a TLX or a similar car to TL. I won't drive a Ford Focus for 60 days.
Did anyone had any issues or it's the same with all dealers?
thanks

1. Chrysler 200 base model
2. Chevy Malibu loaded
3. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
4 Toyota Prius (wanted to try a hybrid)
Personally it's up to the Enterprise location whether they can accommodate you for a better car. They offered me a pick up truck if needed, a Ford Excursion and Ford Mustang.

Call around to multiple enterprise dealers in the area. It's whatever cars they have in stock. I had a brand new Maxima (liked it) and then a Ford Edge (hated it). Fortunately I only had the edge for 2 days of my 60 days.

I went to the Enterprise location at the airport when I wanted to exchange the Malibu I had originally been given. They have the best selection. I went mid-morning when it wasn't as busy at the counter. The person there was willing to give me an Infiniti SUV, but I knew that would probably get the attention of Acura. But I could have had my pick of what they had, they didn't care.

Can't believe that there still such lengthy delays! I called my local dealer (Airport Acura in Cleveland, OH), they had replacements for both my '13 TL and '10 RDX within two weeks. Replacement took about 45 minutes on each. Did I just get lucky?

In my case I was put on the list the end of Feb, but I had to wait a month before my dealer would allow me to receive a loaner or rental while keeping my car at home. Got the rental beginning of April and by mid June the part came in.
So when all was said and done, it was almost a 4 month wait for me from when I went on the list to when the part was replaced.

IMO I think you lucked out, while some people were lucky like you most of us waited several months.

First, I was in a rental car for 3months. The original daily rate I was given were $35 then I called Acura Corp and they adjusted to $45daily. I started of with the following: (all 2016 models)
1. Chrysler 200 base model
2. Chevy Malibu loaded
3. Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited
4 Toyota Prius (wanted to try a hybrid)

Got my TL back after 5 months and putting 22k miles on my Impala rental. Brakes make a bad shudder now when stopping, they didn't do it before I dropped the car off for the recall. Dealer said it would be $300 to turn my brakes, looks like I've got a project to do this weekend!

Just got the call from Norris Acura, MD and made the Appt to have my TL fixed next Tuesday. What a relief! Had the rental since June 29. Started off with a Hyundai Sonata (hated it put in ~510 miles), then a Jeep Patriot (gave me back-aches, loud, no-backup camera put in ~640 miles), and then Nissan Rogue (liked it, put in ~1200 miles). I kept calling places to exchange car and usually got the run-around. I took it to BWI airport but the Patriot had a little nick so they refused to help exchange for anything. Norris paid $35 a day for the rental. Looking forward to driving the TL! Wondering how to execute return of rental and taking the TL to the dealer? Norris said that Enterprise will pickup their car from my house. I should drive the TL to the dealer (airbag fix will take 45 mins).

Our car was at the dealer a few months ago for routine maintenance and I asked about the seat belt recall (I don't recall if I had gotten a letter from Honda/Acura). They said they should be getting the parts some time over the summer and I had forgotten about it figuring I would get a call. So far nothing. I am not really concerned but will probably give a call before the summer ends.

Dropped by the dealership to inquire about getting the sw update for my transmission and I was pleasantly surprised to find out they have the parts for my airbag recall. They're doing both now so I'm stuck here for the next hour or so with nothing to do but drool over a new NSX.

Parts Supply Outlook
For more than a year, Honda has worked to secure an increasing supply of replacement inflators from Daicel, Autoliv and TRW. We continue to expand the supply from these other suppliers, and in the foreseeable future, we will be able to replace recalled inflators using only inflators from these other suppliers.

I have a 13' TL that was recalled. I didn't park my car or get a rental, I didn't complain to Acura about being inconvenienced, I just drove the car like normal and didn't worry about it.
My lease recently ended, they replaced the airbag, and then I bought the car. It's not Acura's fault the airbags were defective and I didn't feel the need to punish them for that.
It's hard for me to read through these comments, seeing how an unfortunate situation brings out the greed and stupidity in people.

It is true that the chances of getting in an accident are low, you can be the best driver but you do not know about other drivers so the chance is still there. I am glad you are safe and you like the car so much that you bought it, but I will never put myself or my family in danger riding on a vehicle that can kill us. I think that is being smart and not stupid.

I don't agree with your comment, it lacks on actual information. The airbags are not defective, the INFLATORS are. It is not Acura/Honda's fault but they have to stand behind their products and provide with an alternate way of transportation if the vehicle is unsafe to drive. It is a shame that Acura/Honda knew about the problem for many years and waited for over 10 people to die and more of getting injured to take real action and release the recall, this is a FACT.

I have zero faith in other drivers on the road not to hit me, so I took my car off the road until my part came in, and I wont let anyone sit in my passenger side until that gets recalled/fixed too as I am sure its the same inflator.

I just bought my TL last month. I called the dealership about the recall and they were going to put me in a rental for 4-6 weeks until the airbag came in. Stopped in before work the next day to say how ridiculous it was to park my new car. Amazingly, they had one in stock and replaced it while I waited that morning. I was shocked and delighted.
