I am so incredibly disappointed. After doing extensive research and being approved for a loan, I was set on the TL being my next car. But now that there is a stop-sale, and no definite dates as to when more airbags will be available, I am nervous to buy from other dealerships. I don't want to wait for months to buy, I don't want to risk it even if the chances are slim and I definitely don't want a damn TLX. Now I feel like I'm back to the drawing board in finding a car. *long deep sigh*

Anyway, everyone be careful.

*shrugs* I've been waiting since February. (No hard feelings)

Any kind of reasearch should have shown this recall ordeal. Also why did you go through financing and all if the car was under stop-sale? Was this at a Honda or Acura dealership?!?

Have you considered buying from an individual or from a non Acura dealership? Only Acura dealerships are prohibited from selling TLs.

You're right, the point I was trying to make is what you said in your post and that is what also bothers me.. The manufacturers always seem to turn the other cheek until a gun is put to their heads by the government to do something and usually it is (not all the time) after several deaths occur.

Yikes! February?! When I said research I really just meant narrowing down my make list to what fit my wants. But you're right, as I was searching I didn't see anything about the recall. I have been searching since the middle of March, saw a few TL's (independent dealers), then went for financing. I went to an Acura dealership this Sunday and they said "oh girl no! We're not selling them because of the stop-sale!"

I have. That is where I have been going. But I'm honestly kind of scared. Especially since my little brother will be driving my car sometimes as well. If their advertised cars were repaired, then sure! But failing to tell customers?! I understand that it's a business but they should chop down the price for selling with an open recall.

Got my rental just now. A wonderful 2015 gold Toyota Camry. Oh boy! This is a bare bones care with a rental car smell inside. I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to own this car. The only other choice was a '14 Altima. Acura dealer told me yesterday it could be anywhere from 1 to 12 weeks before they have the parts in to repair my airbags. He said they prioritize based on the VIN of the car.

Like I said, I have an appointment in the morning to sign paperwork and then they'll shuttle me over to Enterprise. When push comes to shove we'll see how Enterprise really handles this.
Enterprise originally had a Dodge Journey reserved for me. I told them I'd prefer something else and then I mentioned I had some summer projects to get done so if they had a truck I'd be willing to take it. They obliged with the only truck they had on their lot - 4 door Dodge Ram Big Horn with the Hemi V8. Only 6,500 miles on it so it's pretty clean and smells good for a rental.

The Enterprise office was extremely helpful and told me when/if I wanted to swap it out they would swap it for anything else I'd like to drive that they have on their lot.

How'd you get from a TL to a honest-to-goodness truck is beyond me. Have fun with your new truck.

I know, wildly different, but I figured I needed to haul some mulch, sand and lumber anyway. Might as well get some additional benefit from having to have a rental. And, this was easier than borrowing my father in-laws F-150 or renting a different truck or trailer when I needed it. Beauty is, when I'm ready for something else, I just go swap it out.

My latest first world problem. After having my rental for 2.5 months, I just got a call from enterprise staying that Acura will no longer pay for my rental. I called my dealer and they said they never said such a think to enterprise. The service manager said they will take care of it with enterprise. It was odd and caught me off guard. I'm glad the service manager is taking care of it.

Maybe because you got it so long ago, and you should have been taking it in every 30 days for a new contract and a checkover? Just curious. Mine is due to go back next week.

My contract has no end date. They have never asked me to bring it in every 30 days. They did say to bring it in when it indicates it needs an oil change.

My contract doesn't have an end date either. Enterprise said they'd probably call me every 30 days for an update on mileage but there would be no need to come back until I'm turning the car in. I wouldn't even need to bring it back for oil changes. They have a corporate agreement with Firestone so if an oil change is needed I could just take it to a Firestone and they'd bill Enterprise directly.

I wish this was my case too.. Even though my insurance company told me numerous times that it didn't matter if I had the car 2 weeks or 4 months my policy would cover the rental as if it was my own car, I still have to renew the contract every month.

I even had my insurance company speak to Enterprise and it still didn't matter, they told me they would need to re-new the contract every month. So due to my schedule I have to contact them next week (a week ahead of time) to see if I can renew it then..

If you have a relatively new TL (mine's a 2013); why you won't probably get the parts until autumn...

Fixes for Takata air bags can take months. What to drive in the meantime? - LA Times

Also some complaints from Beamer owners about being given Kia's for a replacement vehicle... LOL!

Here's the list of cars affected by the Takata airbag recall. It's mind-boggling.

http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/new...icle-1.2602999

BMW has 40 models affected. That's 40! Yikes!
Mercedes Benz has 38 models.

Update from my Product Specialist at Frank Leta Acura in St. Louis:
"Acura ILX's are receiving airbags now. TL's will be last more than likely. They are going from newest to oldest for replacements. Frank Leta has only been supplied with two airbags so far."

I can only imagine the amount of inventory they have on the lot of ILX's and then other newer models of Acuras before they can get to "my" 2013 TL....

Maybe he's thinking "newest" to oldest because the sales vehicles will probably get serviced first.

From what I understand, the oldest customer cars are in the most danger (plus the humidity level where the car is located). so a 2013-14 should probably be fixed last. And out of that lot, the one's that have rental cars will be fixed first.

My info from the dealer aligns with comments from others.... whether its because of profit margins (making more money on newer cars than older used cars being sold to combat the cost of the rented cars), these cars already being at the dealer or whatever this seems like the approach they are going with.

Like i said with them only getting two airbags so far this is only a dim glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel for me.

Late to the thread

I just recently bought an 04 TL and am in the process of fixing it up- daily driving as I do.
I have some questions for someone who has been an owner longer than a month!
1) where do we go to determine whether or not our particular car was affected
2)How are the dealers treating this?
3) I am reading a lot about high humidity areas- does this make the incident more likely to happen? I only ask because the TL I purchased spent the majority of its life in Florida.

Thanks for your time!

Looks like the 04 TL doesn't have the airbag recall, but double check here:

Recall Information for Safety & Defects | Acura Owners Site

type in your VIN number.

Got Rental Car

I turned my 2009 TL in 2 weeks ago to the dealer. I told the Service Manager I wanted a car similar to what I drive. He called Enterprise and I requested a car with bluetooth and similar to my TL. I picked a Buick Lacrosse the next day that had only 2800 miles. Not a bad car. Fully loaded except no Nav. I programed my phone & garage door opener into it. Now I have to take my 2014 ILX in and see what I get.

Went in today at the local Enterprise branch and traded in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson I drove for 6 weeks for a 2016 Nissan Maxima with no problem. They even upgraded me without me begging for it. Apparently they categorize Maxima as Premium and I do agree, it is a lot nicer and pretty comparable to TL minus leather, heated seats, AWD. It is a very nice car!!

I have a Maxima as well. The tech on it is very nice and in a lot of ways better than our TL's.

I called one of the local Acura dealers the other day. They have not gotten one part in as of yet. He said it may not be until the fall before the TL's gets repaired, maybe longer. I am genuinely concerned that it may take even longer than that. Acura/Honda has 1000's of cars to repair and apparently this part is not easy to get. I've heard someone comment here and say it takes 10 minutes to do the job but that's not realistic. It's at least an hour labor and time to schedule it, coordinate it with the shops other work, etc.
Conversely I called a different dealer, and they sad existing customers would be services first(not the stop sale ILX and RDX's on the lot). I call BS on that as it differs from everything else I have heard. Not really sure what to do here, if this goes into the fall or later, Acura will have paid 6000-7000.00 for car rental fees, which is probably 30% of the value of my car. All we can do is wait I guess, right now I am stuck with a 3000 lb paperweight sitting in my garage, not feeling good about it.

Oh, that is so very untrue. For a moment of peacefulness, you can always sit in and crank up the volume! Just remember to hook up battery tender and use Sta-bil. I am used to sleeping in the stored car in my garage when the living sofa is not even an option. Problem is that we don't have fold down rear seats... Otherwise it is not 1/2 bad. Remember to crank the windows down when doing that though...

Got a call from ACR representative last night and he was making sure that I was taken care of and he mentioned the parts might be arriving sooner than the letter says. He said early summer instead of late summer stated in the letter. I don't know but I believe that they should be able to get the parts early summer

I hope you're right. I don't mind saving the mileage and wear and tear on my TL for a short while but I don't want to be without it for a lengthy period of time. I'm good with June or even July but if it's going to be August or later, that is upsetting.

I worked through Bloomington Acura in MN where I bought my TL.

I got a POS Impala at first, but that was all the local office had. The Enterprise guy was trying to get something close to my TL and was thinking V-6. Got to credit him for trying. The power was good but it had a ton of torque steer, I hated the tech, and the visibility was awful. Not even a backup camera.

So on my way back from a business trip I went to the airport Enterprise and she had a new Ford Taurus Limited. The tech is not too bad, and other than not having GPS, it's better than the TL. At least it shows the title of a song when I listen to my Galaxy S6 over bluetooth. It even has remote start, which is nice since I have to park it outside in the driveway now.

At the suggestion of my Farmer's insurance guy, I lowered my coverage on the TL to storage coverage for the duration. It's a significant savings.

Maybe in a month or so I'll bring the Ford back and look for a Maxima.

I was told if I did that, I would only be covered for comprehension. My coverage covers me to drive any car, as long as I'm paying for the car I'm replacing. If you cut down on your insurance, you may only be covered for anything that happens in storage... I'd double check if I were you.

After two days of driving it, I really like the car but there are few things preventing me from buying one if I am looking for a 4DSC. First, it has a lot of torque steer. Every time I stamp on the gas, the front wheels would spin like crazy before they get some traction. I mean it is a pretty much brand new car (4000 miles on the odo when i picked it up) with Conti Pro-Contact tires. I guess 300 HP on the FWD is just too much for any tires to handle! The GPS map is really outdated, it looks older than my 2012 TL tech. But it does have a lot of info around the screen (ie, what song is playing) when you are in MAP function.
I absolutely love the digital instrumentation gauge. It tells you what speed limits are on the roads!! Size wise it is very comparable to our TL! I felt a little cramped when I was in a TLX.

I have full coverage for two other cars with Farmers, so that still gives me full coverage for the rental.

I think you would be right if the TL was my only car.

I have a rental, I wish I had a loaner because I am pretty sure that based on my relationship with my dealer, I would probably be able to renew the contract either by email or fax since as you said they're not inspecting the cars anyway.

From what I was originally told, the every 30 days isn't so much to inspect the car as it is to renew the contract for insurance purposes. Even though as I have mentioned, my insurance company has told me and Enterprise it's not necessary.
