TL SH-AWD Trunk Ledge Organizer

I'm sure that, like many other 4G SH-AWD TL owners, the shape of the trunk floor is a pet peeve and detracts from the practicality of hauling cargo. Add to that the lack of storage nooks and crannies on the side of the trunk, as well as in the spare tire compartment area beneath the floor, and it makes for an impractical use of space. This post is specific to SH-AWD owners, since our AWD cars have a little ledge whose floor sticks up 6-inches at the back of the trunk.

I just thought to share my home-made SH-AWD trunk-ledge box for putting in emergency supplies. This box is velcro'd onto the trunk carpet with extra-loopy industrial strength velcro (the standard velcro hooks loose effectiveness after the first time you remove the box, since the hairs of the trunk carpet are so short). I've placed flares, emergency water, an electric tire pump, flashlight, blah, blah, blah inside the box.

What you also see is a Weathertech Digital Fit cargo mat, as well as the Acura Cargo Net (which is a joke). I'm tempted, but am not about to cut holes in my Weathertech mat, just to configure the cargo net into my preferred arrangement, which is to have it as a web on the floor of the trunk.

For what it's worth...

Sweet. That's about all that can fit in that space so it's a good use of space.

I have two Rubbermaid containers with lids in that space attached with Velcro. It works great.

it would look soooo much better if you painted that to match the rest of the trunk liner

I know what you meant, haha. Admittedly, it wasn't really meant to be looked at, recessed deep into the trunk. At least until I posted pictures of it, which wasn't part of the original plan .

That's nice, I bet if you wrapped the box in some sort of felt it would look even better!

Thanks! That space in the trunk is so wasted, and I thought it'd be a real shame to not try to make some use of it. One of these days, I'll get around to making it look good too, in addition to being useful.

I was also somewhat blown away that there are absolutely no storage bins or pockets anywhere inside the trunk, for things that might roll around in there. Too bad the accessory cargo hooks and drawers look like enough of a pain to install (with the need of a rivet tool) that you really have to want them to install them.

It would be clean if it had a cargo net that went up half the height of that empty space as a way to block things in place.
