TL Differences '10-12 / Purchasing a Used TL

Hello all.

Im looking into an Acura TL, after my 11 BMW 550i was involved in an accident. I figured since im going back to school i could get a cheaper car to mod. My PRevious car was an 08 ISF

To give you guys an idea of what I am into.

I honestly am pretty lost but seems to me SH-AWD is the way to go and most of them are usually fully loaded.

Right now Im trying to figure out the difference between an 10/11/12.

I saw a couple of TLS that are pretty much have the look im going for. I plan on modding this pretty heavily. Exterior/Interior.

I also am wondering how itll feel going from isf to 550i to acura tl? I really dont care bout speed anymore as long as it can get up and go on the highway and passing cars.

Any idea what year/model these cars are?
Acura TL on VVSCV4 Wheels
Acura TL on VVSCV5 Wheels
Acura TL on VVSCV5 Wheels

Specifically interested in the year/model of this car.

Thank you all, pretty excited to start modding one of these since I dont see them modded that often

The TL in the video, and first Vossen link, is of the 09-11 gap

The TLs in the second and third Vossen links are of the 12+ variety.

Most noticeable differences between these two designs are the exhaust tips, rear bumper (exhaust surrounds, rear reflectors, silver boomerang), front grille, turn signal/fog surrounds. The rear license plate also sits much lower on the 09-11 than the 12+

The lip kit on the 09-11 and 12+ are considerably different, especially on the rear. 09-11 has a full rear lip with improved exhaust borders, whereas the 12+ lip kit are just textured panels that are slapped onto the side of the bumper, nothing ties them together though. The third Vossen link you posted shows the 12+ style if it helps.

It would help you a lot if you looked through the Photo section on here and paid attention to the features I listed above when comparing 09-11 to 12+ models.

Also, in case you are thinking of getting Vossens, be ready for some people to piss in your cheerios about it on here. There are some people that REALLY don't like them as a brand, and it usually catches new members off guard lol.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info! Im definately looking for a 09-11 then. So hard to find a black one so i may settle for another color.
If i get a SHAWD it should have every trim/package right?
the 12+ with lipkit have no lines at all

Ive been in the car scene for a long time and i already know bout vossens stigma lol. Personally I am not a fan of Vossens, if you look at my other builds im more a of a 3pc JDM type of guy

Also interior wise 09-11 / 12-14 stayed the same pretty much?
Would you happen to know what grille the black one has in the 1st vossen link?

The 09-11 definitely has a much more aggressive look to it. Once you take care of the grille it's head and shoulders above the 12+ IMO. The interiors are also nearly identical. The one difference I can think of, which is minor...is the part that sweeps along the dash and into the doors is textured in the 09-11 but smooth in the 12+. Most people probably wouldn't even notice. Also, there are a couple additional features on the 12+ like BSI and cooled seats (in the appropriate trim of course).

The grille in the first Vossen pic is just the OEM grille painted CBP with the Acura emblem painted red. Most of us on here have color matched the grille and it looks great once that's done. I felt it was too monotone though on the CBP so I painted the mesh silver to break it up some.

Good luck with your search!

Not sure which tranny the OP is going for but 12+ is a 6AT vs 5AT for 09-11

If you plan to mod it up nice, go for the 09-11... Rear end is much more aggressive and the painted colormatched grill looks great...

if you had an IS-F and 550i, I don't think you are going to be happy with a TL.... you'll be missing a "few" horses....

I'm surprised at the replies here... I'd definitely suggest a 12+ over an 09-11 model, they made a whole bunch of Improvements to the car for the 2012 refresh.

This article covers most of the changes but I don't think it mentions the added sound deadening to help lower road noise which was also done for 2012+ models.

Most people who have the 9-11 change headlights and rear light to the 12+. Some also did a full conversion to the 12+

Oh man. I'm not saying our Acura's are horrible. But going from a V8 ISF pushing 416hp to a V8 twin turbo pushing 400+hp to a V6 Acura which is trying to push 300hp. You'll probably be disappointed ahaha. An F10 BMW is my dream, especially the 550i.

I'm one of those guys that hate Vossens. I love the style but they're ridiculously overpriced for the quality and that they're cast wheels so super heavy. Since you had TE37SL's on your ISF which are monoblock forged wheels which are roughly 18 lbs versus the standard Vossen wheels that weight near 30lbs you're going to notice a huge difference in weight if you're trying to do any performance whatsoever.

2012+ you'll get the 6 speed transmission with the rev matching gear box. 2011- is just the standard 5 speed transmission. There are also other minor things. For me, I prefer the rear of the 2011- and the front end of the 2012+. I think it's more or less personal preference and what you're trying to spend.

I have a 2010 SH-AWD A spec with 19 inch tires, front, rear and side skirts. Honestly, I like the 2010 model a lot better than 12. From 2009-11, you get quad exhausts with AWD models.

if you get a 2012 Elite/Advanced - you will get Blind spot monitoring, heated/ventilated seats and 6 speed. But you will lose the aggressiveness of 2009-2011.

Good luck!
