you're 31... i assume no kids? and live in CA.

get a porsche. you only live once. for what you would pay for that STI or TL you could easiliy find a NICE low mileage boxster. a MILLION times more fun and classier than either the subie or Acura... hands down, no questions, period. end of story.

i had one. and mine was an old first gen boxster.. with about 220hp... and it was the MOST FUN car I have EVER owned. I am 42, 3 kids... don't hae the disposable income now for the toy car... but if I was back in time, and your age, with no need for back seats.. i'd have another boxster. the new one is well out of the TL/STi price point...but you could easily find a nice 987. they still look good.

not as crazy fast as a modded STI but easily faster than any TL and handling will put the subie or TL to shame. the AWD of the Acura/Subie will do alright on a single turn..but hit the twisties and it's all over.

that's my $.02. buy what you want.. but when I see young guys asking about shitty little crap box cars like EVO/STi... yeah they are fast but they are total little shitty crap cars.... and 99% of women will see you as some loser boy racer.

drive a porsche... it could be a cheap ass first gen boxter thaty cost $15k and people think you drive a $50k car... and it's still more fun.

just have some cash for repairs. only downside..it's not cheap to fix. pay to play i guess.

If the OP is considering something like a Boxster, I'd suggest he also look at a clean used S2K or a Miata. Both tremendous handlers, fun to drive, and -- unlike a Porsche -- maintenance/repairs will not drive you to the poor house.

This post holds a lot of merit.

You only live once. A good friend of mine is super cheap (not a bad thing). Very well off, and very humble. Been driving his 4Runner for 10+ years with well over 170k miles. I've been tell him for years to get a new car; he deserves it and can easily afford to pay it with cash. He recently went out and bought a new Lexus GX. I was happy he finally got himself into a nice car. Then he just found today his father is dying with only days to live. Deep down inside I'm sure he thought that life is just too short to deprive himself unnecessarily of enjoyment.

I've debating on getting a 996tt or 997.1 for the longest time. Maintenance/repair costs is the main issue. Otherwise Porsches are an absolute blast to drive. All years look good and looks like a Porsche (save a few minor details here and there), whether you paid $15k or $150k.

Bottom line: get the one you want. You can always sell it later if you are not happy with it; at least you got the chance to own it, enjoy it, and not have to think what-if.
