"straight piping" the 3.7

A little background, I have a 2012 SH with rv6 jpipe and rv6 hfpcs and I want it louder. I was going to get magnaflow mufflers but then I thought It would be cheap to do a muffler delete and if I don't like it I can then order the magnaflows.

So would hfpc, catless jpipe and a muffler delete be considered straight pipe? Except of course for having hfpc's instead of PCD. If not what else is there to remove?

At first I was 100% sure I wanted to try it. But then the other day I was driving like 5 cars behind a straight piped S4 and it sounded like complete ass. Literally ass, like really loud continuous farting noises. If it sounds like that I will hate it.

Anyways after acura replaces my pistons and rings and such I still think I will do the muffler delete. Any thoughts? Can I consider it more or less straight piped once I get a muffler delete?

your car will sound like ass without mufflers.

i'm completely catless
RV6 pre-cat deletes --> Rv6 Jpipe---> Rv6 Exhaust. the cat back exhaust has two great mufflers that TUNE the sound.

without the mufflers there's no way to "tune" what the exhaust sounds like.
it will be complete ASSS!!!!!

it's ALLL experimentation, ANYWAY.
if you get daring, TRY it.
you can always throw mufflers back on

and to answer the question; since you have the high flow cats, you would not be considered catless....because you still have cats...albeit high flowing cats.

Yeah it probably will sound like ass. Still want to try it on the off chance that it sounds okay. Hopefully hfpc and stock resonator will be enough to keep it from full ass sound lol.

Do a X cross over too! I had to drive a header only rotary engine for 40 miles, that is loudest car I have ever heard

Won't sound good. The HFPC's might tone it down a bit than if it were truly straight piped (like justn said, straight piped by definition indicates there is no cat's or mufflers whatsoever). But it will still sound nasty.

When I was getting my Magnaflows installed, I had the shop start it up just to see what it sounded like with just the HFPC's, jpipe and stock resonator. I thought the HFPC's and resonator might be enough and we could just delete the mufflers. I was very wrong.

one could also do a very quick experiment by unhooking the jpipe and starting her up
SUPER loud!

Ahhh its that bad huh. I wonder why some cars sound good with a muffler delete and some not.

Like my friend has a wrx with a muffler delete and it sounds great.

Yeah, it's really about how the sound waves travel and resonate through different components. It can be different for each engine. But yeah, HFPC's + Jpipe + stock resonator - mufflers =

That's just my opinion though. It didn't actually have much rasp. It was just way too much drone. Even with that setup + magnaflow mufflers, there's a little bit of drone. I think it's the perfect amount though - to let you be in touch with the engine without it being overbearing.

if you didnt want to watch the video, Jason explains....the unequal length headers create the wonderful sound of boxer 4 engines. one could create unequal length headers for the inline 4 or the v6, but it wouldnt be efficient in exhaust scavenging

Well that makes sense. Which Magnaflow mufflers did you get? 11225?

Same for fwd and awd?

You can delete the mufflers and see how you like it if u wanted it louder after that you can get aftermarket resonators thats i did the oem resonator chambers are 20" i put 2 magnaflow resonators in place of the factory ones with a 22" chamber on and it made it significantly louder compared to the stock generally the smaller the resonator the louder it gets i plan on installing my hfpc's soon to get some more noise. But i wouldnt recommend straight piping it sounds nice at idle but it way to obnoxious when driving.
