So who actually likes the 4gTL?

I think most of us have more than heard of enough of the rants around the design of the 4gTL. I'm curious to know who the folks are on board with the design and excited to see more pictures and the actual car in the flesh?

From what I've seen it doesn't look bad, but I still want to see it in person.

I like it, but its just not the car for me. I am done with sedans for now. Hopefully they come out with a coupe in the next few years.

With my 06 nearly paid off I was going to look at leasing a new 09 if it looked as good as the 3rd gen. After seeing pictures (and after I see one in real life) I'll probably lease a 335 or IS350. Where the 04-08 really stood out from the rest in styling, the new one seems pretty bland. I won't go so far as to call it ugly, just plain.

Have to see it in person to know. From pictures it doesn't look like a worthy successor. I'm hoping it will look sporty, innovative, and original, but all the cheap flashy plastic oversized plenums look like GMs or Fords. This is a $40k car, not a $19k Saturn.

Maybe it'll look fresh and new, obviously what they were hoping.

^^^^True I will be paid off next Feburary and I can't see myself driving the new gen TL. I'll be looking at the BMW 335i Sedan......for about $45k it seems like a better deal to me.

I'm in the camp of those who like it - or at least those who will reserve judgement until it is seen.

Then again, I like the new RL as well and everybody seems to hate it.

The main issues for me are going to be stuff like steering feel (if it has the same numb EPS as the new TSX - forget it) and MPG. The styling, interior and exterior, is fine IMO.

I will wait to see it in person. It's a risky move, but so was the redesign of the civic and it's paying off.

TSX looks better in person then it did in the pictures. Maybe the TL will be the same

4g TL is for someone else...

I own a 2000 TL. Its critics ranted about the bland design, however its classic clean look kept its relevance to this day and you could feel that this car was part of a continuum.

The impression you get when you look at the new design is that Acura is going through some kind of an identity crisis.

The original Legend, Vigor inspiration has been replaced by to some kind of pop culture infection.

I was hoping they wouldn't make the TL as hideous as the TSX and the RL, but they sure as hell did... next car I will be picking up in January 09 is the new 4 door M3...

i like it, yeh i love my TL right now, the way it is styled, etc.

all in all, this is what is going to happen,

the new TL will come out, our TL's are going to look old, the newer model will all grow on us, thus everyone will have it.......

it is way to quick to judge thus far because it isn't even out and no one has seen it in person.

lets judge after it comes out.

After a while the new TSX has grown on me. Not as "WOW" as when I first saw one in person (ended up buying one a few months later).

The new TL looks bigger styled like Lexus GS sedans. The rear is by far the ugliest part, reminds me of a saturn.

I just drove down the road next to one for about a mile yesterday (only things covered were the rear emblams)... I was considering getting one, but now I think I'm going to go with a 3rd gen...

It looks decent in the official TL press release but that's a rendering. Most of the spy pics have been at odd angles plus with some camoflaging. I'll have to wait in person for a final opinion. Plus like others have already said, the 09 TSX looks pretty good in person. We all have to realize that it will be hard to top the current generation TL in the looks department.

based on the 3G tl my expectations were sky high. After seeing the latest pics...well..I wouldnt say its ugly but its not on the level of the 3g tl IMO.
Having said this...the TSX I didnt like much in pictures...but in person it is DAMN SEXY and I would own one in a heartbeat if it didnt have that p***y engine.
lets hope the TL isnt photogenic and is hot in person
Still...no six speed no sale for me.
They better not even THINK of calling this a sport sedan without a manual.

Let's try and keep this thread on topic to what the OP is talking about. If you want to rant about it, there are other threads to do it in.

Honestly I didn't like the 3G either at first. But now I have an 08 Type S and absolutely love the way it looks. As for the 4G, I kind of like it already.

The title is: "So who actually likes the 4gTL?"

My answer, like everyone else who answered your question, is not me.

Perhaps you should start another forum called: "Everyone who agrees with my opinion that the 4G TL is the best looking car sign in"

I don't know how you even begin to respond to something as poorly thought out as this. Again, read the title of the thread, it's not hard to grasp.

I remember the banter about the 2004 TL and how horrible it looked, until it was out and seen and a huge success. I saw the 1st video from the engineer before it was yanked, and I have to say that unmasked and in motion it looks alot better than I would have suspected from the previous pictures, although I also am not crazy about the new front grill.

At the end of the day most of the car woudl grow on me, EXCEPT for that ugly front end. I see the new TSX on the road and that new grill immedialty turns me off. As for the 04, the first secodn I saw one I fell in love with it, and while I did not own a 2G Tl I wanted one of them for the longest time. I do not have that immediate desire for the 4G, it actually makes me want a G35/G37 sedan more.

I agree...
As I've said in another thread, I encountered someone test driving the '09 twice this week by the MarysvilleOH plant and it looks much better unmasked and in motion to me... I even like the front grill now that I've seen it.
But, to each his/her own...

After seeing the TL in the video Im starting to change my mind and I actually think it looks agressive and has a better presence that the 3 Gen TL, just like the new TSX compared to the first gen. but each person has there own taste.

Love the

- SH-AWD
- Interior
- New engine
- Better handling
- new features

Hate the

- Grill
- Bloated exterior design (Seems like more of a camry now, before the 04-08 TL's looks sharp and clean like a Jet)

Well after reading a few impressions of the TL on other sites they all agree on the fact that it looks better in real life, is more luxurious, has better handling and better materials so im waiting to see it in real life but so far I like it.

The 3GTL is perfection from every angle. They massacred it with the 4G which appears positively awful from every angle. Doggone shame. Perhaps seeing it at a dealer will help but I doubt it.

Thumbs down Horrible!!!!!!

I thought I would be adding an additional Acura in the garage (possibly 09) next to my lovely 04 TL. But, after those pics I will be in the market for the new 09 G37. Acura could have put a 400hp engine it in and i would not buy it. What in God's earth were these designers on?

G37 ...330 hp and yes 7 speeed auto tranny.....

I'm buying one, hopefully late fall. I'd love to buy the SH-awd but we'll see what

the price of admission is. I guess I'm one of the few here that like it. No, I'm not

wild about the grill, but I'm already used to the new look and I think it looks nice

overall. I've read a number of posts from people saying they are buying a G37, not

this TL. I like the G too, beautiful exterior, but I just don't like the interior. Now if

they put the M interior in it that would be a different story.

Quick Reply: So who actually likes the 4gTL?
