SH-AWD 6MT Owners - What did you or would you buy instead?

For those who had or have an SH-AWD 6MT, what did or would you buy as a replacement?

I have a 2010 that’s been a daily driver since January 2013. I live in Connecticut, so the SH-AWD has been awesome in the winter. Well, actually the SH-AWD is fantastic any time of the year. Anyway, I’m considering getting into something else with an automatic, and I’m not quite sure what that may be... One requirement is the transmission has to shift quickly, I can’t stand a lazy shifting automatic. My previous car was an 09 G35 S, and I HATED the Infiniti 7-Auto.

So, what did you or would you buy instead?

I’m from Connecticut also and have the FWD 2013 TL with the 6 speed. I’d say get anything without a CVT cause they are horrible! I feel like a 6 speed auto is the perfect combo with any engine. Right now I’m in Rhode Island on vacation with a 6 speed auto 2019 Hyundai Kona AWD as a rental. It shifts just like my TL and I’m happy with that. Crazy how far Hyundai has gone when it comes to their vehicles. My next car will definitely be a SUV or Crossover when I’m done with the TL. I had trouble in the snow with mine with cheap all season tires but once I bought Bridgestone Blizzak Winter tires it wasn’t a problem and the car plowed thru snow effortlessly!

I have a 2012 TL SHAWD with 6MT and I live in Toronto. SHAWD helps alot here in the winter. If I were to get something else in the similar range or specs, I would be looking into the G37x or IS350 for Japanese. If I were to go European, I would be looking into either the S4 or the 335i. Now I would be sticking to manual so I can't speak for the shifting speed on the autos.

I'm considering either a GS-F or RLX Sport Hybrid. They're two different animals and I haven't test driven either but those are the two on the list so far.

Neither have a manual transmission but I'm afraid to say I've given up on that. There are very few vehicles with manuals anymore.

Good feedback. I really like the GS-F, but I think I’m more interested in the GS350 F-Sport for the money and MPG.

Another top consideration is a Porsche Macan; a base model I test drove was very impressive, so an S or GTS would be fantastic.

I thought that too until I drove one. Fast and Fun? Yes! A buddy let me drive his, and sure it’s fun. However, the ride was very rough; there is no way I would want one as a daily driver. Maybe I’m getting a bit “soft” in my near middle-age? :-/

Lol, that's a ridiculous downgrade in terms of quality

I agree with you, downgrade but do we have other options on market to meet TL 6MT specs?

Does the STI even meet them? It's a turbo 4cyl.

You have the Golf R available in 6MT which is hands down a better interior than the STI.

Then you also have:
- New Genesis G70 (RWD 6MT or AWD AT)

- Used (~2018?) Audi A5 (AWD 6MT)

There aren't many luxury cars that come up for AWD MT for 2019

I also drove a used Audi S5 6MT. I bet their dual-clutch Transmission works well too. I really liked it but wonder about costs long term.

While not identical, they're close, I'm getting ready to do my second DSG/Haldex/etc service on my Golf R which comes to about ~$600 at the dealership to have all the fluids changed.

Technically this would be the first required one but I've been halving the intervals because I can. So instead of a 50k service I've done it at 25k and now 50k.

I bet the Infinity Auto 7 - like to hunt on freeway acceleration. Manuals are getting hard to find in good cars. This is my first auto, going to get a dual clutch auto if I cannot find a manual I want.

I’d consider a similar trade for a newer TL. I may have to post that...

Good article, thank you for the link.

My dislike of the Infiniti Auto 7 was the delay in shifts. It was fantastic if you drove it easy or at 10/10ths, but I didn’t do well in between.

2012 TL SH-AWD. It's either the civic type-r or focus RS for me.

⬆️Slyvester..agree with you on a type R...but the $10k that the dealers and buyers are currently paying are outrageous. The car is definitely worth the sticker....but no way is it worth $10k more!! Hoping that ends soon!🤞🏼
