Sequential tail lights

Has anyone thought about converting the brake lights into sequential turn signals and brake lights?

Universal kits are available but how hard would the wiring be?

I'm more interested in the touring car fast flashing brake lights, but im unsure if they're legal for road use.

Apologies to OP, but just wanted to respond to HeartTLs - flashing brake lights are on the new Porsche 911.

Don't they flash only for a second or two and then light up constantly, kind of like an EV?

During emergency braking they rapid flash about 5-6 times then normal constant on.

But back to the OP, are these kits really universal? It sounds like it would be challenging for the TL light cluster. How would one separate the LED's into flashing segments?

This wouldn't work on the turn signals would it? Aren't they single bulbs?

I saw this thing on TV a while back that proved how much more effective these are. They took a scene in the woods and as you were looking at it added a man in camoflauge. It was nearly impossible to see where he was added unless you were looking at that exact spot. They then did the same thing and had the man's image blink two or three times before being added permanently...made it much easier to notice.

Aren't most new motorcycles equipped with these?

I was thinking about disabling the stock turn signal and using the brake light as a sequential turn signal and brake light in one. (Its done on some cars).

Ive found most of the universal kits are for cars that already use the turn and brake light as one.

Pretty simple relay rig. Maybe $30 in parts per side, and soldering, and shrinktubing your wires. Not sure that I'd fashion the TL tails to be ideal for this though.

I think thats basically what these universal kits do.

How do you wire the brake light into the same bulbs without having it turn on when the turn signals are activated?

I have little doubt that a flashing light would be more effective, however the description you gave of how they "tested" or "illustrated" it is preposterous (comment on the show you saw, not you). A better example would be to have them insert the guy with camo holding a light, and then do again holding a flashing light.

Unless they were trying to illustrate how a vehicle which blends into its surroundings and has no tail lights at all is less visible than the same vehicle with flashing tail lights. But if that's what the show was about, then "TV" has truly run out of ideas.

Need to mod the LED panels to do something like that.

Would be an interesting mod, but might not be worth the trouble.

I have flashing 3rd brake light on my 4g and Miata. politely flashes 4 times when braking. It will not flash again until reset of about 30 sec to prevent flashing in stop and go traffic. I love it, never had ANY close rear end collision since installed.

Gib, I have had a similar thought and since you have brought it up I thought I'd ask. I've wondered gow the led's are made on say the Porsche or BMW 7 series , Mercedes and even VW. Have you noticed like a...... flickering (if you will) or a ... I dont know how to describe it, but they kindof look as if they are well flickering but at such a high speed that it ALMOST appears solid. and when primary brake lights light up it's an exotic, super bright red (or yellow) . I wonder if those panels can be converted to be used on the TL's and your sequential flash sems as if it would be one step closer to being easy. But please tell me you know what I mean when I refer to those cars and their tails... I have really been wanting to do that to mine.

Do they flicker in person or on video. I know that the framerate of a a camera will cause LED lights to flicker.

If you mean in person im not sure ive seen this. We dont have alot of exotics in thunder bay lol.

Definately in person. There has to be somebody in here that knows what i am talking about. lol... I saw a small Mercedes on the wau home last night and IT even has the LED tails im referring to... Like I said , even the 4dr VW has it!!! (idk what model it is.. Golf?? idk..) anyway I have NO DOUBT if you saw this you would strike a liking to it. The flickering is all the time dim or bright. The brake lights are a brilliant red though. It just looks exotic to me.

what a unique idea, i don't think it would look good at all

i swapped out my rear turning signals for LEDs, those look neat but I wouldn't want to change anything else
