Recommendations on Window Tinting?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get my 2009 Acura TL w/tech package a tint job, what darkness would you recommend without getting pulled over and obtaining a fix-it ticket?

I want it dark enough where I have privacy but not too dark to get pulled over!

I live in SoCal, how much should I expect to pay?

Thanks in advance!

Considering your driving history, I'd go for the lowest LEGAL percentage allowed. I'm not sure what that is in your area but you should definitely determine that before making any decisions.

I guess a ticket for a too dark tint is the least problem you'll have, since you have a suspended license, no?!

Oh well... Each their own!

Okay guys, how about if I wanna get the lightest tint. How much does a tint job cost in an Acura TL w/tech package, all colors are the same.

Maybe thats a better way to word my question.

Actually, the better way to word your question would be to pick up the phone and call a couple shops near you. They could give you an exact amount over the phone rather than asking us what we think it would cost. Of course then the troll may go hungry.

OK, I'll play along. I have 35% and it came with the car so I don't know how much it cost. I would prefer 15% with 35% on the windshield.

I would think you could expect to pay $175-375 depending on the type of tint you go with.

I went 40% and cost me $219. The car comes with factory tint so when you take that into consideration you'll be at about 33%.

1st - go and find out what the lowest legal tint limit is for CA.
2nd - Don't exceed it!

I got Huper Optik ceramic tint done at a local place in the Boston Area (Tint King in Billerica for any locals) It cost me $400 - superior heat rejection and lifetime warranty.

Please do try and use the search box in the future. You may want to as the regional SoCal forum for questions about tint prices and places - but USE THE SEARCH - i can almost guaranteesd you 20 people have asked the question before.
By the way - typing "tint" into the search box for the 4G forums returned the following threads for you. They may/may not be helpful, but either way, you'll probably learn something.

I'd take that bet, but since I can lock the thread it probably wouldn't be fair.

I have 20 all around and live in the Dallas Fort Worth area, depends on your taste...never wanted limo (5%) as its just a tad too dark but 20 is a good in between...not legal in Texas but doesnt get you pulled over and gets me passed the inspection process as well. Good privacy without the too dark tint also...best of both worlds in my eyes...yeah I know not everyone agrees but to each his own...no one pays my bills

i went dark on the back 3 windows and light on the front two. I think its just about perfect. But I might get pulled over for the side windows.
If I were to do it again I'd go very light on the side windows. and still very dark in the back.

https://acurazine.com/forums/4g-tl-photograph-gallery-296/new-2011-wdp-tl-sh-awd-tech-811869/

If I get a ticket I'll just pay it. and not change anything.

You're car looks awesome! I have a palladium metallic, similiar color but doesn't come close to yours. Yours is obviously newer and such.

Hey guys, Thanks for the responses. I was just looking for simple answers!

I'm getting my car tinted this weekend, I'm hoping to spend less than $250 but we'll see. I'd like to keep it light. I'll post some pics once its done..

I believe the law in CA is zero tint on the Driver and front passenger side window. I'm trying to figure out the same thing. How far can I go without being pulled over. I'm thinking 35 in back and 50 in front...I know...I know...50 is like = almost no tint.

Hey EazyRider,

I don't know where you are in SoCal but I have had several cars now done at SunShield on Van Nuys Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley right off the 101. Their tint was on my Corvette for 14 years and on our last Acura TL for 12 years--NEVER ANY PROBLEM.

I keep meaning to get our new TL done there and the price is right (about $150). They know the level of tint you should get to keep the cops away. Our previous TL had all of the windows tinted--the side windows were all the same and the rear might have been slightly darker.

And I'd like to send an apology to anyone I offended in the past. I'm here to turn over a new leaf within the AcuraZine board. Please don't take everything I say literally, alot of its in jest. I do get frustrated sometimes at the seriousness of the board with some straight forward questions that I do have being a CPO 2009 Acura TL w/ tech package owner (true story). From this day forward I'm going to do my best to be more sincere with my posts.

Thanks in advance!

california tint in rosemead, ca is the best..

look it up on yelp.

but as some said, with the way you drive, getting tint is a waste of money..

in california ANY TINT in the front windows is illegal, no matter if its the lightest or not. if the cop wants to be a dick, he will.

I don't think any of us feel an apology is needed, we just would like for you to use better judgement going forward...don't create a new thread for every question you have. Search for threads that already contain the answers and tag onto them if further info is needed. It gets old to see you time and time again create a new thread for a topic that has already been discussed numerous times.

Trust me, follow this advice and you will get less and less shit from your fellow posters.

I've heard some people refer to it as a "tint tax". They just accept that fact that they're going to get "taxed" now-and-then and when they do the pay the "tax" and move on.

It just comes down to how much money the State needs to generate and/or how hard up the cop is to make a quota of tickets. Used to be that you would pretty much only get cited for something like not having a front license plate if you were pulled over for something else. I had NO license plate on my previous car for 13 years and then one day a motorcycle cop pulled me over solely because I did not have a front plate. I also know folks that got a ticket for no front plate while their car was parked in front of their house! I have not heard of this nonsense going on yet for tinted windows and I think the trick is either to go with a reasonably light tint if you do all the windows or to leave the front windows untinted if you go with a very dark tint on the other windows. Still I have seen plenty of cars with very dark tint all around but that would be like inviting a citation.

the fact is that it is illegal.

i go by day to day, running my 17% all around, i see cops, i drop my front windows..

if you get caught for any moving violations, be assure that you wont just get a ticket for a traffic violation, your inviting everything else illegal on your car to the list as well.

ive been there before.. got a ticket for parking outside my house overnight, and that included tint and no front license plate..

I did some research and have not found one thread about "good places to get in a tint in SoCal"

You're probably just upset that the Denver Broncos took a crapper this year. Practice you're Tebowing for next season instead of wasting your time replying to my posts if you do not like them... okay thanks!

Lot's of trivial things like window tinting and front license are arbitrarily illegal and probably are the result of revenue potential and over-thinking something by do-good politicians. I believe Arizona does not make a big deal about tinting but I might be wrong. Also, I routinely see those big stretch limos where virtually everything is tinted pitch black. Seems to me it would make sense to permit a "reasonable" level of tinting to all the windows.

By the way, I am a tinting dummy and do not know what the % numbers mean. Is a lower number a darker tinting (seems counter-intuitive but maybe the number reflects the amount of light that is allowed to pass through)?

Thanks.

Interesting I did a search on "tint Socal" and found several threads with information and also a thread you started in December asking about tint then.

Yeah I wasnt getting the answers I wanted so figured I'd start a new thread?

I'm not trying to start anything here, but if you don't wanna read a thread, don't click on it? It's not like you have to read a thread just because its been started.

Hey guys thanks for the comments and recommendations, I'm getting my car tinted this weekend. Estimate is approximately $200, right off the 110 freeway where I live... WIN WIN!
