Quick Announcement-High mileage TL - Acura TL 2009
Hello everyone,
Just a quick announcement.
My TL was finally reached 80,000 miles yesterday. I bought it during Janurary,2009. Pure stock (well, I installed the KN SRI but then just sold it, it was not worth anything for my TL)
Never miss a single maintenance:
Life time oil change every 4500 miles with blend synthetic oil
every 12,000 miles tranmission fluid replacement.
32 bucks per time (self replacement)
Tire rotation, balance every 4,000 miles from Discounttire
Tire Alignment every 20,000 miles.
Replacement parts:
Replaced 4 tires at 50,000 with Kumho 4x (custom siping from discounttire, it holds up pretty well during winter conditions, and fair price)
1 new battery - energizer at Sam Club
5th windshield wipers set (Bosch)
1 front windshield (cracked at 52,000 miles, winter drive)
1 front bumper (too many rock chip, and scratched, it is just normal from daily highway driving)
Done!
Guess what, It is still like first day. just up and run.
I was thinking of some other cars:Subary WRX, or European cars, a Jeep?. but, at the end, Acura-Honda still have my trust. As long as this TL can live up to 200,000 miles like my "college beat up 96 Accord". It will be in my garage couple more years.
I will do tune up soon, and new timing belts at 100,000 miles.
Everyone who is like to share your High mileage story too, welcome to my thread!

Glad to hear you still love it at 80K miles! Just one question, if you used pure synthetic oil, why did you change every 4K miles? On my previous 07 TLS I changed every 8K miles and my engine was running perfect at high mileage...
Thanks for sharing good info

how much was the front bumper + installation?
like 25% (probably an exaggeration, but it feels like it's 1/4) of my 2010 TL bumper is rockchipped...thinking of getting it fixed at a body shop...unless replacing it is cheaper...

it cost me around 500 bucks to do the whole new front bumper. the bodyshop guy ordered a manufacture bumper from Acura and original paint color, then it took him 2 days to finish his job. I had to leave my car at his shop. But I was very pleased.

63,000 miles since Dec 2009.
Not a dime spent except maintenance, and that's only what the computer says, plus the OEM rubber finally wore out. Nothing more.
Most expensive thing I did was contact the wholesaler in MD to get OEM tyres. They went 62,000 miles and they were great, so I got more.
$900 or so...and that was wholesale.

But they're great tyres so what the hell.
As I said in another thread, not a week goes by that I don't think to myself, "What a nice car."

I discussed it with the wholesaler and with a Honda dealer who is also a track-going companion, and the advice was to stick with OEM Michelins as long as they were available.
Every tyre I threw out there that I thought was better, they had issues with.

If you don't mind, I'd like to re-visit this and ask you what tyres you've gone with when you had to replace yours.

I have two sets, winter/early spring/late fall set (Conti DWS)and rest of the months set (Vredestrien Ultrac). I love them both; don't have much experience with summer tires but as my 2nd set ever (1st was V12 evo), I can say these are amazing. The conti are equally impressive and my only criticisim is that they're difficult to shine with tire dressing.
The milage you got out of your OEM set is very impressive though, how did you know they were done? I assume from previous posts that you're a mature driver and keep the 70+ and sharp corner driving on the track .

Still a baby in terms of mileage like an earlier poster mentioned... it'll be a while before I get anywhere close to that mileage. I think I just passed 22,7xx miles on mine. I think I'll be getting the DWS's when mine are done. The tread rating (how much a tire should last) on the Conti DWS's is higher than the stock Michelins if I recall correctly...

Thank you for telling me, and I'll do some research. Too late now, of course, but it's good to know.

There were no symptoms of their being finished. I simply realized that over 60,000 was a lot and that it was probably time. They might've gone a bit further, if I'd wanted. With winter coming on and the weather getting worse, I didn't want to take too many chances.
They handled well and got good fuel economy right up to the time they were replaced.

I agree,at times i feel like i have to lay off the gas in curves but not because of the lack of handling or performance, its those shitty oem tires.
IMO the best tires ive ever had ,where the original yokahama tires that came with my 06 aspec rims.I dont recall the exact dimensions but 100+ in the rain with no problem. They ran about 245/tire for 18's
